2 THE MEDFORD DAILY TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON, THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 1JXM). AT FAIR THIS YEAR Fair Board Management Creates New Features For the Rac ing Season The racing program for I lie statu fair, which opens for the week be ginning Monday, September X is sued by Secretary Frank A. Welch, of the slate fair board, contains many new and attractive features over the program of previous years and, judgiug by the entries in the early closing stakes, the talent rep resented in the harness events will surpass that of any previous meet ing held on Lone Oak track. One of the new features introduc ed is the offering of three stakes for runners, with nu aggregate of $1000 in premiums. Heretofore it has been the l-iile to arrange the running cveuts by over-night entries, and no cntrfauce foe was charged. The only revenue obtained by the fair management under that system was a small percentage of the earnings of the winner. This year, however, the runners desiring to participate in the running stake races will have to en ter on or before September 1, and pay a small entrance fee. The rules governing those stakes are the same ns apply to the harness events. Be sides theso stakes, there will be two or more running races each day of the fair made up with over-night en tries, and theou will be sandwiched in with the other events. AH of the early-closing stakes, har ness events., 11 in all and including some of the fastest classes on the coast circuit, have been filed. . Be sides these theie are a total of 10 other stakes posted, embracing both harness, consolation and the three ' running events. Entries for these close September 1. Among the fast; events which have been filled, and in which it is expected that some coast records will be smashed all condi tions being favorable, are the 2 :12 pace, Capital City stake, $S00; 2:15 trot. Farmers' purse, $1000: 2:08 pace. Greater Oregon purse, $,"000: 2:12 trot, Lewis and Clark purse. $5000; 2:05 pace. Rapid Transit purse, $1000; 2:15 pace.
