'TWAS ft DEER A DEAR JERSEY CALF Grants Pass Sherlock Holmes and Nick Carter Camp on Trail of Naughty Hunters. The officers of the law in Grant Pass got on a hot trail last Monday morning and a bunch of warrant were issued for John Doe and Rich aril Roc and a general harvest lawbreakers was anticipated. Word was brought to this city by a train mini that he had seen a doer hangin in the camp of some Italians that nre working west ot town m the granit pits, and the officers immediately got busy and had the warrants lssuen. and in the boiling hot sun hotfooted it to tbc camp about throe miles an all uphill. Professor- Pow ell. head of the Tinted States Trail fcr and Storage experimental buroni accompanied by Professor Stubei ranch, arrived in Lodi yesterday. Mr, Stubenrnucli conducted the exper mental station here last year. It is the intention of the government offi cinls to establish a prc-cooling appa ratus in connection with the experi mental station. This prc-cooling ar rangement was designed by the de partment at Washington and is sim ilar to the Southern Pacific's plant at Rocklin. A number of tests will be made during the coming season and a great deal of valuable data will be gathered for the benefit of the growers.
