Thiirsdnv evening made a wholesale
roundup ofthe hoboes mid trumps
that have made Medford a rendezvous
for tlie past week, arresting 22 of
them. The men were found in bands
along the truck. . sleeping in waro
houses and boxcars.
Some of the men professed to lie
in scorch -of employment, and these,
were sent nut to work on the city
water pipe being installed by the
Kish Lake company, where they will
have a chance to make pood. The
rest will hnve to leave town or work
a jail board bill out.
. For a month past tramps have an
noyed the citizens of Jlcdford and
several burglaries have been com
mitted, for which thpy have been
blamed. They have secured meals
by heirship from door to door. They
were kept in funds by "touching" the
business men of the city for small I
change to pay , "for n meal" or
"night's Induing." TJiis money was
spent "rushirfg the growler" at night,
first one member of the gimp secur
ing a bucket- of beer and then an

They had become bolder and bolder,
in their operations, pretending to
seek employment at a time when or
chardists, hay raisers, the P. & E.
and the Fish Lake compnny are put
ting every available man at work.
One of the arrested men proved to
be Samuel Graham, who was arrested
and fined $l"i for drunkenness last!
September.' .Ife promised to remit j
the fine, but never did. so was given
a chance to work it out.
The rest of the men were marched i
out of town. '

SKATTLK. June 1 1.--Washinnton
lumbermen are highly pleased today
by eastern news indicating a revival
of the lumber industrv. The news
reached the eity in the form of spe
cifications for lumber orders njre
yatiriK over 12,000.000 feet, which it
is expected will hriuj; into the north
west n ijuarter of a million dollars.
The specifications came from car
manufacturers of Chicago. St. Louis
and Milwaukee, and is the first hi'
lumber order received in AVahinnon
for nearly a year.
