(IVy B. W. Cupper, Gold Hill. News) Kor the past three years I huve carefully noted the great progress of the people in Southern Oregon. Com ing direct from the East and landing in Gold Uill, in Febtirury J'J()(i, audi not heing posted at nil in t h? fruit industry which had seized the people long before that time of course I did not know whut to think of that phase of Southern Oregon's many rerources of eoniinerce. It.it since that time land has gone up! up! up! doubled and fpiadrupled, especially in tin-. ease around Medford uhere tin- most boosting is being done. have not luted carefully the eon I project which is being prosecuted igomiisly in the .Ifo.vy Ann district. I have; not personally examined the Medford (ui ltny Ann) prospects, but sent a I ri'-nd of mine to examine tin same! nod hrii.i? families of the coal and report geological surrounding these properties. My reasons for doing this was to compare the many reports with the actual facts, and secondto note the actual character of the coal, third to become acquainted with the general strike and dip of the vein. Krom the general conditions there is harlv unv doubt but what these properties will dovelope into paying institutions. It will (Kssibly be of some interest to the reading public to note. another t fact relative to the prospective fu ture of Southern Oregon's coal in-f (crests. On a small creek a mile and ; a half from Sams Valler there is a splendid vein of bit uminous coal which out crops regularly for u dis- ! tn nee of three-frourths of a mile, which is six to eight feet in thickness. having all the neee.-ary requisites for a paying mine. Rogue River Fruit Land Co. Agents, "of 814 3rd avenue, Seattle, Wash., attracts attention on account of the prom-1 ises made,, which are all firing enough to read, but will be, rather difficult of fulfillment. The circular says: " l!V sell you I hi' liDid it till wilier rights on hi y nicnts o'j $12 an acre a month. But how arc the promoters going to make good fi The Rogue River valley is very fertile and will grow nearly t.nything Perhaps pecans will grow certainly no body has proved it impossible despite the fact that thei pecan in its native land is a product of swampy land in-; stead of dry hills. But lemons! A lemon tree will growj and one has even borne fruit, but as a eonjmereial propo-j sit inn, which will pay three-quarters of the cost of purchase! planting and operation, a lemon grove here is an absurd-! ity. However, whoever bought such an orchard would) certainly get a lemon- i There is no need nor 'call for misrepresentation here..
