installed while the present one is at
work keeping the' water nnt. When
the pump stopped the shaft filled
with water to a depth of 12 feet in
ahout -10 minutes and it is estimated
' that at the present time the well will
afford nearly 17.") gallons of water
4n'tiow in a strata of loose, water-
hearing gravel and as soon as the
bottom of that is reached tunnels will
ho drilled hi two directions to cross
cut the water veins. It is expected
this will 1'iirni-li an unlimited supply
of fine water. The tunnels will also
furnish a large reservoir capacity
for storage of water. Hids will he
called for the construction of the
tunnels at once and the work will he
pushed with all possible speed.

future. It will he of brick -and was
made necessary owing to the fact
that the company's business has out
grown the company's present quar

school site, the clay being suitable for

I).. H. Campbell tndiiy completed the
sale of Odessa property owned "by
Mary Griffith to Col. W. If. Unlit
bird. This beautiful place, situated
on I'elieau Hay, Fpper Lake, lies four
miles south of Pelican Lodge, and
has for years been a widely known
summer resort.
The personal property was reserv
ed b Mrs. Griffith. Possession will
be given soon to the new owner ami
t he hotel will be closed.
Mr. Ilolnbird says that when the
proper time comes, a modern hotel,
catering to the best class of tourist
travel, will probably he built at
Odessa, and the wagon road leading
to Crater Lake made as good as pos
sible. liy owning both the .(i2 acres at
Pelican lodgc ami the 480 acres at
Odessa, drainage canals can be econ
omieiilly made to redeem all the
marsh belonging to the two places,
turning them into timothy buy mea
