Comments at Some Length Upon the Naming of Harvey Scott as Ambassador. Ever remindful of what Harvey Scott has done in the way of aiding Ashland Kditor Kaiser, upon hearing that Harvey had been appointed am bassador to Mexico, stuck his tongue in his cheek, took a pen that scratched, dipped it in vitriol and tfrote thusly: Harvey Scott, aged 74 years, edi tor of the Portland Oregonian, has been offered the appointment of am bassador to Mexico, to become ef fective next September. We have been looking for several years for a foreign appointment for Mr. Scott, and, along with others who have lived in Oregon, trusted that he be thus honored. Had we been in President Taft's confidence and had the designating of the particular am bassadorship during the past few months, it would have been to Jerico, or n ccrtin widely advertised "state1 the temperature of whose climate is distinctly undcisl 1. However, Mr. Taft, who is noted somewhat for lit cleverness as n diplomat, has seen fit to place Mr. Scott himself, and thereby again de monstrates to the enple of Oregon that he is onto his job.
