LTNN COUNTY GRANGE
OPPOSES STATE ROAD
ALBANY, Or., Jan. 7. Tu addition
to tho recent action of the Good Roads
league in pausing retentions opposing
a state highway, the Linn County
grange has taken add verse action, con
tending that the mniiev required in the
construction of such a highway will he
a fino thing for the automohilists of
tho state and of small practical value to
tho farmer nnd tiller of the soil. The
amount of money required for such
a highway could he put. to better use
in building and improving tho high
ways leading to the centers of trade
and commerce, the grangers argue. The
matter of providing a state engineer is
also opposed on the ground that the
county can handle the road question
to better advantage without state aid
in the way of giving orders and spend
ing money in maintaining tho necessary
officers to direct tho campaign. The
grnngo expresses itself favorable to the
good roads movement and desires to see
better highways extending iu every di
rection throughout the state.
