INGERSOLL GEM FOUND Df
LETTERS OF "QTnNINE FIM"
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.t Dec. 22.
In looking over some old papers of
the late James A. McKenzie (Quinine
Jim) a friend found a copy of a letter
from Colonel Robert G. I agora oil to
Mr.r McKenzie accompanied by a jug
of rare old liquor. The letter reads:
"Dear Jim: I aend you some of the
most wonderful whisky that over chas
ed a skeleton from a feast or painted
landscapes on the brain of man. It
i mingled souls of wheat and corn. In
it yon will see the sunbeams chasing
each other over the billowy fields, the
dews of night, the wealth of summer
and autumn's rich content, all gilded
with imprisoned light.
" Drink it and yon will hear the songs
f mm and maiden f:iir. mingled with
tlx laughter of cliiMrrn as they sing
the 'Harvest Home.' Drink it, and
through your veins you will feel the
star-tit dawn, the dreamy tawny dasks
of many perfect days.
"For forty years this liquid joy has
been imprisoned within its happy staves
of oak, awaiting an opportunity to
touch the lips of man.
"Yours truly,
"ROBERT G. INGERSOLL."
