whoro Lelteuf first got his start on the
downward path," declared Captain of
Detectives Peterson yesterday. "The
race course completed the ruin begun
by a sudden mania for gambling.
"I.oHcuf was pursued relentlessly by
sharks, who sought by every induce
ment to get him to visit the lloulevnrd
Park hotel. Since the latter part of
August he squandered between $1:1,1100
and $l!i,Hil there."
Captain Petersen denounced Dave
Cottrell and a man by the name of
Wagner, who runs a roulette wheel at
the hotel, as two of those who wero in
great part responsible for Lelteuf 's
downfall.
From further confessions on the part
of Lelteuf and investigation by Peter
sen it is know that it was the roulette
wheel at the roadhouse which first start
ed Lelteuf on the down ward course.
To recoup himself for losses at rou
lette he sought the race track.
I.oHcuf told Captain Petersen his
fust misstep was in August, when, with
11. S. Smith, who was also arested Sat
urdav. he visited tho Buleviird Park
hotel. At that time be lost W of
his own money.
Roulette nnd fnrn were both played
wide open at tho hotel, but it was the
click of the ball that fascinated Le-Hellf.-
ITe went again and lost. Then
he begnn his defalcations. I
LcBouf will lie formally cliargoii to (

Wattcrs, manager of tho local store,
probably will be the complainant.
Smith, the chauffeur, who claims to
own tho two automobiles that stand in
the name of Lellouf, was released yesterday.
