the district criminal court to pay a
fine of $10,000 and to serve two enrs

Iron Corporation, Limited, with a cap
. Itul of $8,000,000, is the title of a newly
formed company which has acquired a
nrnnbor of iron plants in Canada and
w,ill operate them under ft joint man
agement. The properties include the
'Canada Car Wheel works in Montreal
. and works at Three Rivers, Que.; Fort
William, Saint Thomns and Hamilton,
. Out., and Londonderry. N. 8.
Formal transfer of the properties was
made yesterday, the consideration helng
$1,957,000.
The financing Is done chiefly in Lon
don, .Thomas J. Drum m ond of Montreal in
prosident, and tbe directors include
Oeorge Oudewitl of New York aad a
number of Knglish capitalists as well
as Canadian representative.

CHICAGO, Dec 0. The hunting sea
son, which for deer closes tomorrow,
has been much less deadly than those of
previous years. Only 57 persons were
accidentally killed this year as against
73 In 1907' and 74 in 1906, but the in
jured numbered 91, ao against HI in
1907 and 70 in 1906. More than half
of the fatal accidents happened in the
stales of Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota
and 'Wisconsin, the number of these
states being seven, six and 17 respectively.

absolute free trade agreement between
the United States and Canada will be
urged by Ooverner John A. Johnson dur
ing his coming eastern visit, and his
agitation may result in a joint legisla-,
tive memorial to congress from the Min
nesota legislature. He believes that the
unrestricted trade between the United
States and Canada would be of advan
tage o both ceuntries.

board of trade made elaborate props ni
ifcms for the entertainment of the dairy
men, who ojven their three-day session
here today. Tonight a reception will
he given at the lliheo club, to which all
delegates to the convention will bo cor
dially invited. There will bo an add reus
of welcome by Mayor Rodgors and re
spouses by a number of the visitors.
Vocal and instrumental music will be
provided. The affair will be entirely
informal and will close with a lunch.

the municipal election, particularly to
Colonel Hofer, who was not a candidate
and had refused to allow his name to be
