URGE O'OARA'S RETENTION:
Professor O'Gara of the department of agriculture is
V,y ftu. the most valuable man to tho Rogue River valley
tnat nua ever been sent by Washington authorities, to
assist and co-operate with local growers in the promotion
of the fruit industry.- He is aiv authority upon -posts of
nil kinds that threaten orchards as well as an expert upon
here in a district supcrlily fitted by nature for commercial
orchards, where hut little scientific work has been done
to assist the grower, and where it is imperative that it
be done if the industry is to continue iu growth and pros
perity. Word conies from Washington that many requests
have been filed by other fruitgrowers with the department
for the poinological export's Bervicea elsewhere and that
unless the liogue River valley can convince the authori
ties at once of the need of Professor 'O'Gara locally, he
is likely to be transferred to some other place. It there
fore, behooves every fruitgrower in the valley to write at
once to the department at Washington and also to the
Oregon delegation in congress,, urging the retention of
Professor O'Gara, whose pending experiments, public lec
tures and expert examination' moan 'thousands of dollar?
to the industry in the valley and in Oregon.
The lectures already given by Professor O'Gara hnvt
had tho largest attendance ever given such discourses.
The Commercial club hall has proven too small to con
tain tho fruitgrowers what at tho. last lecture filled the
opera house. Interest in the work is growing.
Resolutions urging the professor's retention should
he passed at once by every horticultural society, grange
aud commercial club in southern Oregon and these supple
mented by personal appeals froin those interested. Thu
O'Gara 's retention may be brought -about.
. TO ASK FRAUD ORDER.
Medford 'h Commercial club vnicod the nnminn of flu
Rogue River valley when it decided upon steps to stop
the circulation of the pamphlet issued by a IOugcne con
cern, which deliberately stole tire data concerning .fruit
records of local orchards and credited them to the Wil
lamette valley. The plagiarism did not stop with the print
ed matter, but practically all the photographs used were
those from Medford and they were labeled as from tin
Willamette valley. The proposition is to boom the sale ol
stock in a co-operative orchard near Eugene and upon
the misrepresentation that records made in the Rogue Riv
er valley were made in tho Willamette valley.
Attention of the- postal department will be called to
the misrepresentation and a fraud order against the con
cern asked. Letters will be written all papers carrying ads
with the misstatements and the Eugene Commercial cluh
will be asked for an explanation.
