DETECTIVES FROM MEMORY
PORTLAND, Or., Nov. 12. John
Burns, wanted in Sana Jose, Cnl. on
a charge of highway robbery, is in the
city jail today, having been arrested
on the street last night by two detuc
tives with good momories.
Several days ago the local police re
ceived a circular bearing a description
of Burns, but no picturo. The dt-mrip-tion
was read at police hcndiuiirt-rs
and it was still fresh in tho memory
of Detectives Coleman and Tenant when
they observed Burns crossing the street.
They followed him for some distance
and finally nabbed him.

SPRAY YOUR ORCHARDS NOW
For Sana Jose Scale, and Use Sampson's
Concentrated Lime and Sul
phur Solution.
Scale lives and works nil the year
round. Don't forget this. As the old
scuie dies the new is ready to carry on
the destruction of our orchards.
The scale is less vigorous in the fall,
and more easily und surely destroyed
than in any other son son of the year.
Therefore now is tho best time to at
tack and kill it. If you spray now. :
many a valuable tree will be saved that
otherwise, because of tho scale, would !
not retain life enough to start up in
the spring. b
You have morn time now; tliero is
less wind to scatter and waste the
spray, and make it hard to cover every
part. Then, too, you cannot tell what
may happen to provent thorough spray
ing in the fall.
But,' iabovo all, the result of fall
spraying are absolutely certain.
Sulphur Solution.
These aro all "spray facts."
We claim no wonderful chemical dis
covery' in this spray, but wo do claim
most emphatically that:
Sampson's lime and sulphur solution
always produces satisfactory results,
and does no injury. There is no better
spray manufactured than Sampson's
lime and sulphur solution.
Sampson's limo and sulphur solution
is a clear, cherry-colored solution free
from sediment. It is guaranteed to
test 30 degrees Ban me. If your deal
ers cannot supply you, writo to us.
Be sure yon uso Sampson's spriny.

"Just Out of College."
The following front. Tuesday's Port
land Journal is self-explanatory:
A grouchy, dyspeptic nation owes a
debt of gratitude to llourge Ade for
his work as a playwright. Thero are
scores of good comedies, but Mr. Ado's
are easily among the very best of pre
sent day productions that have no oth
er mittsiou than to amuse.
Such a play is "Just Out of Col
lege," which is the bill at the Baker
theater this week. No more hilariously
funny combination of pure, clean hu
mor und good natural satire has ever
been seen in this old town. The little
play had the big audience at the Baker
Inst night fairly doubled up with mirth
from tho time the curtain went up on
tlie first net.
There is a fairly well defined plot to
the piny, as in most of Mr. Ado's come
dies, but its strongest hold on the risi
bilities of the audience is its marvelous
fidelity to human nature American
humuu nature. Tho characters are peo
ple you meet every day and the things
that they do are things that you your
self have done, or seen done, a thou
sand times.
The company is fully equal to tho
demands of tho piece and is one of the
most evenly balanced road companies
seen here in many days. William A.
Mortimer as the college youth, person
ally, is not so well fitted for the part
as might be wished, but does it well.
The star of the skit is Lester Craw
ford, as "Slivers" Mason, "Jiggsy's"
college chum. ' ' Slivers" ib a youth
with a perpetual "souse" and to see
h i in a nd especially to hear h is song,
"Just Like That," is enough to make a
Methodist bishop poke n Mormon apos
tle in the ribs with sheer joy.
Sale is now on.

WHAT THE KIDNEYS DO.
All the blood in the body passeB
through the kidneys ouco every ihreo
minutes. The kidneyi filter the blood.
Thoy work night and day. When healthy
thoy romove about 500 grains of impure
matter daily, when unhealthy some part
of this impure matter is loft in the

matism, gout, giavel, disordors of the
eyesight and hearing, dizziness, irregu
lar heart, debility, drowsiness, dropsy,
deposits in the urine, etc. But if you
keop the filters right you will have no
trouble with your kidneys.
John Davis, living on Bordman street,
