THE SOUTH DA EOT A DEC I SI OX.
Harvey Scott still labors under the senile delusion that
he can be United States senator J'roin Oregon and has em
barked full-fledged upon his campaign of dishonor for
only by dishonor can the election of Chamberlain be prevented.
me. j-oruanu wrcgoniaii tinny snarls loitli various
excuses to justify repudiation of solemn pledges made peo
ple by legislators. It has discovered that, the republic is
in danger, that Statement No. 1 is akin to secession and
grabs every possible straw to exalt dishonor and pave the
way for the shame of Oregon.
The latest agonies are over the decision of the supreme
court of North Dakota, in which the court was asked to
,: "restrain the people from expressing their choice for Unit
ed States senator which, by the way, the court refused
to tfo so the people of North Dakota as well as of Oregon
have the; right to declare their choice and the republic
still lives.

court held it had no jurisdiction to pass upon the election
of senator under the provisions of the primary law.
,.' The .North Dakota decision has no hearing whatever
upon Statement No. 1 in Oregon. The decision of the
North Dakota case does not affect in the slightest particle
the Oregon primary law, nor does it in the least release

to their constituents that tliev would vote
for senator as instructed by the people.
