plurality in Cleveland and Cincinnati. as it'apf
Taking those two cities together, Bryan
will this time have a small plurality.
If a similnr disaster happens to tin
; republican plnnralities iu the remain
ing cities and it is probable there
will be nothing loft but the country
counties to save the state for Taft,
Tho 00 country counties eontnin an
average of one town each of from fiUOO
to''10,000 population. Here are many
workingmen in shops and factories, also
rntlrpadors, also miners. All told, near
ly one-half of tho votes in tho state
are1 more or less subject to the influ
ences which aro making for Bryan
among the pooploTvho make up the base
of tho pyramid of the sorinl structure.
McKinloy's plurality of 17,000 in these
fl0"counties may easily be submerged.
Taking the stnte as a whole, an aver
age change of about eight votes to the
precinct eight votes out of 2fi0
woud ovoreomo thn McKinley plurality.
Tho saloons alone will produce proba
bly one-half of that change in their
manipulation of the floating vote, flen
oral conditions threaten to produce the
remainder.
Ohter Parties a Factor.
Considering now the whole mass of
voters in Ohio, wo find ft probability
of nbout 1,100,000 ballots this year.
Both the socialist and prohibition voters
will'Mhereftsey arid both will draw from
thc'repuhlicans. The independence par
ty 'vote will be small, drawing about
eqnally from tho other parties. The
increase vote will bo about equally di
vided. Republican and democratic, com
parison being made with 1900. Virtu
ally every 'man who voted for Bryan
eight years ago will vote for him now.
We hear of no changes from him; all
the"'changosare tho other way. Bryan
is Wt ill 'in 'disfavor with tho business
interests, but that is not a loss to him.
They wore against him before. Tu fact,
there is a gain for him. They are not
as Active;or intense in their opposition
ns they were. They are making few
er Irnd feebler efforts to influence the
men' whom they employ.
How many votes is Mryan likely to
gain through the influences which are
at ''Work for himf There is no possi
bility of giving more than nn approx
imation. Tho exact science of. math
ematics cannot of course be applied
here. We must guess. The managers
of the political machines with all their
organization and polls have not ascer
tained. They, too, are guessing. But
guessing may bo intelligent, may be
impartial, may b based upon wide
information, and I do not think the
bestMnformed republicans even, will
qunTTol with me when I mako nn effort
to classify the various conditions and
their possible effect.
The question which naturally comes
to the front just now is: if hiryan couui i
runfllike that Ohio when the conditions
were against him, what will he do now '.
that' tho conditions are in his favor!,
It is a pertinent query. It is generally
admitted that virtually every man still j
alive who voted for Bryan eigiit years
ago w ill do so now. There are no reports
of defections, save through death, from ;
the old guard of Bryan's lucky num
ber, 474.SS2. On the other hand, it,
is undisputed that a few democrats who ;
leflAim on the silver issue and had not
retnrned in 1900 are now in line. For
the first time since 1M2 the democracy
of this state is united in a presidential
contest. The conservatives balked at
Bryan, the radicals balked at Barker.''
the corporation nominee. Parker fell
130,000 votes short of Bryan's double
header figures. Rooierelt bat McKin-'
ley's aggregate about 45,000. Sixty or
eighty thousand disgusted democrats
didn't go to the polls at all, and many
who'ftid go rbted for "Roosevelt. "Al
most firerybody voted for Teddy," they '
say here. His plurality was nearly as
large as Parker's total. Bryan was
never rejected by Ohio ii any such vio- j
lent fashion. The margin against him;
was 4S.500 the first time, 69.000 the
second time uite moderate in com par

be much greater than the foregoing fig
ures indicate. .
I do not overlook the fact that the
republicans, generally speaking, have a
better organization in Ohio than the
democrats, or the possibility, now that
they realize the danger, they may do
something to save tho situation. Even
hero tho circumstances are not favora
ble. Tn fact, it would bo difficult to
conceive a greater combination of un
toward conditions and accidents than
thoso the republicans of Ohio lire fight
ing against this year. Mr. Vorys, Judge
Tuft's personal manager in Ohio the
national republican committee, every
one knows, is not responsible for' the
candidate's own stato in this campaign
is an able and energetic executive.
He is assisted by a clever man in
Chairman Willinms. But they aro work
ing against, odds, and hnvc little money
with which to operate. They nro unfor
tunate, too, in tho fact that in consider
able part the republican organization
in Ohio this year is a new one, built
over the ruins of the Foraker-Bick ma
chine, nnd not nil of the new men are
experienced or effective. The Fornker-
Dick men displaced by the new re
gime are in many instances inactive -or
sullen, and a fow nro iu open Iiob-j

Their Unceasing Work Keeps TJs Strong

All the blood in tho body ' passes
through the kidneys once every three
30qq minutes. The kidnoyj filter the blood.
Thoy work night and day. When healthy
thoy remove about 600 grains of impure
matter dailv, when unhealthy some part
of this impure matter is left in the
blood. This brings on many diseases
and symptoms pain iu tho back, head
ache, nervousness, hot, dry skin, rheu
matism, gout, giavel, disorders of the
0ft)1 eyesight and hearing, dizziness, irregu
lar heart, debility, drowsiness, dropsy,
'deposits in tho urine, otc. But if you
keep the filters right you will have no
trouble with your kidnoys.
John Davis, living on Bordman street,
Medford, Or., says: "1 was afflicted,
with kiduey troublo for 12 years, nnd,
although I doctored and used many rem
edies, I was unable to find rcliof. 1
Buffered sevoroly from pains in my back
and generally felt tired and worn out.
Learning of tho merits of Bonn's Kid

procured a box at Raskins' druir store.
Question''1" M'dford, 1 had only used them a short time when
the ten , ,1 noticed a great improvement in my
condition, continued and was benefited
in every way. I am still using Doaa's
