MEDFORD DAILY TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON,
POLITICAL SITUATION IN
NEVADA BADLY MIXED
RENO, Nov., Oct. 17. Vyith a three
cornered fight in the state over the nom
ination of a representative at large to
congress, in which au extraneous issue
affecting state legislation is dividing
the voters, Nevada today faces an un
certain political prospectus.
II. B, Maxson, tho city engineer, is
the Republican nominee, but there is
defection in his own party and tho an
tagonism of the labor vote becauso of
tho Republican state platform, which
indorses a state police provision.
Georgo Bartlett, of Tonopnh, tho
Democratic candidate, is likowise op
posed by the labor forces for the Btuue
reason. The labor faction attempted to
nominate Pat A. McCarren, but Bart
lett, by controlling the Democratic con
vention, obtained the indorsement of the
stato police law. Ho was also active
in aiding Governor Sparks to seeuro
its pasage by the last legislature.
Ex-Chief Justice of the State Su
preme Court A. L. Fitzgerald, nomi
nated on tho Independence ticket,
which has au anti-police bill plank in
its platform, is considered in n fair way
to gather in tho labor vote. Fitzgerald
is an elderly man.
Tho senatorial fight has been reduced
to an agreement between Francis G.
Newlaads, Democrat, and P. L. Flan
ungan, Republican, to abide by the vote
of the people and allow the winner at
the November election to bo ratified by
tho legislature.
