Dick Slinger Says Engin
eer Roberts Over Looked
Him Entirely.
THE SLINGER It ASCII.
In an interview published elsewhere J)iek Slinger
makes some very good points Jor his offer of a source
of supply to the city. It is the only proposition yet sub
nutted which provides deeds not only to water, but to land
for headworks and watershed reserve as well. , Ilc offers
acres of land and water rights covering several hun
dred inches of filings, on the north fork of Little Butte,
about 200 of which are used, for $7500.
Mr. Slinger complains, and with some reason appa
rently, that his proposition has not met with the consid
eration deserved, and points out that the engineer's re
port recommends acceptance of the Fish Lake proposition
and the taking of the water out of the stream at the Ilanley
meadows, just below the ranch Slinger offers to sell, when
a few rods further would bring the intake on the land
offered.
"It" Mi-dford is to take water from
tlio north furk of Little liut to ubuv
the Haulcy much, my proportion should
have first thoiee, asserts Dick Sltngc
of the upper Little Butte valley, who
viHited in Medford this week.
"I offen-d the city my upper much
uljoiiiing and above the Ilanley tract
consisting of 334 acres and water righto
covering several hundred miners' inches,
200 of which are used for irrigating the
ranch, for $7500. This will give the
city its intake, enable it to fence a
mile of creek bed above and keep cat
tie out and provido any elevation ue
sired for pipe, gradient and reservoir.
Both Land and Water.
' ' No ot her proposition made," con
tinned Mr. Slinger, "provides land as
well as water, and both nt a price so
low as to be ridiculous in comparison
wit h ot tier proposi tions. Mr. II anley
wants $21,000 fur water ulone, nnd
the total flow of Wassoit canyon is not
as great as the amount of vator di
verted on my place.
'The Fish Lako Ditch compeny of
fcrs :t0O inches for $15,000, no laud
accompanies the offer. My ntncli has
as good a right to HOD inches an the
Kish Lake company. My wuter rights
are incontcHtibb. You cannot be en
joined, and vn don 't have to await
the completing of dams above to guar
aatee the water. If thero ts not water
enough on the ranch, and 1 claim there
is, it is an easy matter to supplement
it from the Fish Luke supply.
Neglected by Engineer.
4 ' I cannot understand why the en
g.ni-er should recommend Fish lake wa
ler to bo taken out of the Little Untie
at the Ilanley meadows, where they will
have to purclintic a right of way and
diversion site, when n few feet further
would give hint all ihe laud needed for
diversion and reservoir. My proposi-
I inn, by far the best ou the Little
Hut te, is not even mentioned in the
engineer's report, which is not n stpiare
deal. !
"If Medford goes to Little Unite
fur water, my proposition is tho only
me to consider. I offer abundant pure
water, ground for di version and pro
oct ion, ample elevation nnd everything
he city is searching for. Who can
beat it?"

ANOTHER RAILROAD IS
NOW BEINO SURVEYED
KLAMATH FALLS, Or., Oct. 7.
A surveying crew of railroad engineers
is working north from the present ter
minus of the McCloud Kiver Railway
toward this city.
A party of hunters from this city
ran across the surveying crew this
week, nnd this was the first knowledge
gniued here of the fact that tho Me
Cloud people had surveyors at work.
Vears ngo it was supposed that the
first railroad to reach Klamath Falls
would be the McClond line, but work
stopped, aituougli the line was
surveyed. Tho fact that n crew Is now
in the field going over the old line raise
many conjectures here ns to the pur
pnse.
On account of the Southern Paeifi
surveyors now running the permanent
line from Alturns north, just east
the old McCloud line, leads some
believe that there will be n fight over
Nnufhern Oregon nnd northern f'atifnr
nin territory.

SAN FltAXCISCO, Cal., Oct. 7.

signs of this character about Medford. We
always find a desirable tenant before a good
building has been "to let" more than 24
hours, and land owners know we can always
find a purchaser if a reasonable valuation is
put on property. Consequently Medford
does not impress the homeseeker as being
"under the hammer." This is as it should
be.
