SEED OF GOOD ItOADH.
Jtoads in Jackson county were never in poorer condi
tioii than at tlic present lime, and good roads are needed
worse tliajj any other improvement. Jt is therefore de
sired that every aid he extended the good roads agitation
so that public sentiment may be fully aroused to the neces

Experts on good roads have been delegated to condut
this campaign of education by the newly formed State
Good Jtoads association, and co-operation of the people of
Jackson county is essential to accomplish needed reforms,

The farmer is still more concerned. Where the auto driv

good highway to place his products at market is essential
to his prosperity. Besides, good roads enhance the value
of all property readied, and the farmer is more vilall
interested than the city man.

(J LEAS Ul' YARDS ASD STREETS.
There never was a time in the history of Medford win
the streets in the business section had as ragged, unkempt
and uncouth appearance us at the present time. Seventh
street and C streets look more like somebody's unkept bac
yard than the main thoroughfares of a city.
J 'art of this is caused by the work of placing wati
mains, laying sewers, and installing curbing and is the Jit
ter Jell by contractors. Part is due to negligence bv tin
authorities, who, expecting an early paving, have entire!
neglected the thoroughfares.
Medford expects E. 11. Ilarriman, Governor Chambei
Jain and other distinguished visitors tomorrow, and an
el fort should be made to clean up a Jittle before their arri
val. There is no sense in brazenly parading our sJovenli
ness. JO very resident merchant and property owner sliotilt
see that his yard is clean and the si reel in front ol'liisplaci
free from Jitter, if he has to do it himself.
SUMHEI! IKtlSFS ASD SAME STREETS.
To a layman, there seems to excuse for not placino
signs on streets and numbering houses, so as to seciin
free mail delivery. The necessary ordinances were pas-ici
by the city council six months ago, but nothing has beet
