W. K. F.mmons, now in the county jail

conviction and sentence to six years
in prison for the fraudulent sale of
mining stock. Aubrey Jilb'g.-s that Fin
iiions is conducting a fake scheme from
his prison cell and trying to sell the
very stork that got him into trouble
before.
Fuimons has a typewriter and station
ery in his prison office and conducts
his business from there. Kverything is
as handy as an office and there is no
rent to pay.
Fmmons directs that his letters be
addressed to Thomas Hates, manager of
the Hoyce Lumber company here, and
Aubrey has asked for a fraud order
against liates also. Hates claims to
know nothing of KmnioriK ' stock. lie
is vice-president of the mining com
pany, but not concerned with its do
ings, he says.

Professor K. F. Ladd, accusing Sec
retary of Agriculture .lames Wilson
with trying to defeat the ends of pure
food depart incuts has adopted drast ic
measures amount iug to a defiance of
the national food and discussion ceil
lers around the probable results.
A resolution was put through the con
vention calling for a committee to draft
a uniform pure food law, which all the
states in the I'nion will be urged to
adopt, and which will contain only such
portions of the national law as the state
associations deem best adapted to I he
requirements of the stales. A commit
tee is hard at work today drawing up
Iheso measures.
The action Is practically an announce
ment that the states intend the matter
of food legislation to remain in their
own hands, due to their distrust ot the
nation to adjust properly tho situation.
