ARE LYNCHED
Bodies Were Found Hang
Ing From a Tree In Ken
tUGky-Jails Forced
KUSSELLVILLE, Ky., Augj 1. The
bodies ut lour negroes were fouud mis.
liemled from tho "old liauiini; tree'
tlie Xnxlivillc pike :it dawn today. The
men worn removed from the jnil in this
city Inst night, liy n molt of determined
whites, who furred the .pnler to deliv
er the prisoners under threats of hat
teriny down the doors.
The lynching was the result of the
murder of .lames Cmuiiiii'liam, n white
farmer near Evansville, K.V., a week
ago by Iinfus Browder, a negro. The
men hanged last night belonged to n
lodge that ndopted a resolution endors
ing the murder.
llrowder probably would have been
lynched if ho had not been removed
quickly to Louisville for safe keening.
The murder caused great excitement
nmong the white, nnd race feeling ran
nigii., 1 lie lodge adopted a resolution
loeonimending the killing of a white
man named Cunningham and when tins'
became known the whites threatened
to torm a mob for the prosecution of
tlio negroes.
The whites determined that immedi
ate and summary action was necessary,
and the mob was formed quietly with
out any warning to the ailer, who real
ized that, it would lie useless to re
nisi. The negroes were taken quietly
to the "old hanging tree" and hanged,
alter which the mob dispersed. The
hanging has terrorized the negroes of
mis city.
I uiininghaiil discharged Brow-dor,
who had been omployed on his farm.
"' llu gro. resenting his dismissal,
wailed an opportunity and killed the
farmer in cold blood.
HELLO, BILL!
Hello, Bill! When din you arrive, II
5-7-8, Oh, ten yenrs ago. Sot Well,
Well. How long since you evoluted
ehf Oh, you have not evoluted, but
uro in process. That 's good it is in
fact, encouraging. Also, the process be
ing comprehensive, you will not become
lonesome I he company will be near,
because of ils being quantitative. There
if) much of it, in fact almost a superla
live number, having much time, hav
ing in fact all the time there is Ihis
is uttered in the vein in which the fly
stuck to the " fly-paper, " (he wly-paper
being (tyonslogieally) the fly's ground
of reasoning.
But, you affirm, you have arrived.
What's your pile'N Ten thousand, eh?
Are yon really of any benefit to hn
inanity.' Have yon ever given human
ity a word, a thought, an idea, a theory
of any considerable moment? Have you
ever worked out for yourself or for
others any social problem of worthy
benefit to mnn?
Nope, but I'm worth ten thousand
plunkR,
.lust, an absorber, eh; a cancer on the
body politic.1 Have you any culture
Nope, but I've got tin thousand
plunks.
Have you any manners?
Xope; don't want nny I've got ten
thousand; ain't that the whole think
these daysf
J know, but civilization, the higher
civics
The higher civics be Imaged; it's the
plunks, I tell you!
The ancient empires many of them
gave encouragement to the arts, lit
eratures and the refinements of life,
thinking thereby to reach the higher
planes of happiness through uccultur
ings, which in large degree they suc
ceeded in doing. Why not give to
society what you owe to society?
I owe nothing to society mine is
tho mazuuia; and, as to ancient civili
zations, 1 one time heard a smart fel
low' say they became decadent.
True; but decadence is not culture.
In so far as your terms do not corre
lale, do you reason erroniously. An
egg will remain nn egg until it evolves
a higher life, or until such time (the
process upward being nrrestid) as it
shall come under the law of fcrmentn
tion and decomposition.
Anyhow, I've got the plunks.
Yes; that seems to be the happy stir
nip to your mount. Are you r church
member f
xes; cert.
Do you live the I. hrist life?
Live the Christ life f Well, no. Who
does in this day and age, when flap
ptincy in the pulpit is as common an is
gossip and blasphemy on the street;
besides, I don't have to; I've got the
plunks, I tdl you.
Do you see that man on the neit
block t
Ves, nnd I hate him.
l!a!e him! What reason have you for
hating him i
I hate him because he is well born
and well bred, and carries himself with
spirit nnd independence meeting ev
ery mnn in courtesies half way only,
and asking no man for the right to a
foothold on this tinhorn. Besides, all
which he has been a lifelong student
and is better informed than 1
Which to you appears in the light
of the "forgiveless sin."
Ilpt. say)
Well, whst is it f
I'm worth ten thousnndOplunks.
So I am informed.
I own a cnd shop I maaa a whole
grocery store and much iM9; while
O
that fellow over there, educated and I
cultured though he be, perforins com
mon service for men. Why do I swell
up and do the grand stunts in store
and church? Why-er-because-er-I 've
got ten thousand plunks. Therefore
I'm "it" while that cultured fellowi
over there is nothing.
May I ask vou one other question?
Cert!
Do you believ one's financial success
to be in measure to one's intellect?
Most certainly it is. Xow that man,
though educated and cultured, has neith
er quantitative nor qualitative brain
power; he therefore is unable to accu
mulate properties, while I that is, this
"me," though parvenne as you think,
a boor who uses vulgar language on the
streets, who spits tobacco juico on the
pavements nnd who blocks the side
walks in such a innnner as to ineonve
nienco Indies in passing, am the whole
original cheese with substantial part
intact. j
But does not that statement, outside
all esthetic and ethical considerations
place you in a peculiar position as re
gards your relative position to the V
derbilts, the Morgans and the Roths
Inldsf
Why sof
Well, you boast you are worth ten
thousand plunks.
Cert!
Well, by that rule, if one's gnnncial
success lie in exact ratio to one's in
tellect, and if, therefore, your posses-
sives, or, more correctly perhaps, your
accumulative noility, be representative.
ly one-fourth inch long to measure ton
thousand dollars, then Rockefeller's
mark would be one mile long to meas
ure Ins six-hundred million ability
Therefore, the conclusion would be that
Rockefeller s accumulative. ability
(brain power energy) would make him
l mile more brainy than yourself. Fur
thermore, one-fourth inch having no ap
proximate comparison with a mile.
leaves the one-foiirth-inch-man without
any brains at all. See?
Xow, yon urge you are worth
thousand plunks?
v ny-or-yes, 1 believe 1 did; am not
ipnte certain, however.
In view of that fact, might I be ul
lowed to propound one question fur-thnr?
Why er ves; 1 think you might.
Well, then would you mind telling
me who was your fat her?
Why John Doe was iny father.
.So; well, then, I guessed wrong.
thought perhaps it might have been
unlaam s vocalized beast of burden.
Sir!
Oh. nothing.

BRYAN WILL ATTACK
MOTIVES OF HEARST
L1XCOLX, Neb., duly .11. William
.1. Brynn is expecteil to make a sensa
tional attack on the motives behind the
independence party immediately follow
ing the formal notification. The affi
davit by Joseph T. Marshall, the only
independence delegate from Nebraska,
in which he alleges that Hearst "pack
ed" the convention in the interests of
the republicans, is said to be a but a
forerunner of the revelations which lire
expected from the camp at the start.
llryan today declined to discuss the
allegation that Hearst has made an
offer in which Bryan would receive
Hearst's support this year and in re
turn Hearst would have Bryan's support
in 1H12, when he would run for demo
cratie presideut.
