According to statements made ly Chief Engineer Rob ! erts, there is at the present time 170 inches o( water flow ing in Wawson eanyon. This can he expected to materially diminish before the wet season begins. I low much can only he guessed. Evidence concerning the autumn flow is con flicting. Many old ranchers. say the stream goes dry. Oth- ers say there is a good flow. I One thing is certain, there never was HOD inches of : water in this canyon to purchase, except during winter months. The first measurement taken in late spring showed less miantity than the amount contracted for by the city. Though the water coinniitle does not think so, the pub ' lie, who are paying for the water, are greatly interested , in the matter, and the news that if, after paying 5,000, there is not the requisite water in Wasson canyon a sup plemental supply can be purchased elsewhere is received with real relief by many, who supposed that the city had forfeited this right. In this connection, figures on the flow of streams in Jackson county as measured by the government are in teresting. They show that low water mark is generally reached in October. This year streams are higher than at this time of year for several years, due to the late spring and the recent thunder showers. The Rogue is 0. 1 of a foot higher than a year ago and must fall l.'J feet to reach Hie low water mark of last October. What is true of the Rogue is relatively true of all streams in the county, showing that a material diminution in Wasson canyon flow can be ex pected. The government measurement of streams taken August 5, 1 ()(, shows a flow of l!):ifi miners' inches in the Little Butte at Eagle Point, of (mCO miners' inches at the Big Butte, three-quarters of a mile above the bridge; of -1 100 miners' inches at K'uch, in 'the Applcgate, and of I MM) min ers' inches at the fish hatchery in Klk creek. The flow of the Rogue river at Cold Ray was 7'U00 inches. The flow in both Antelope and Trail creeks was too small to be measured in second feet. Last year the Rogue at Cold Ray fell ().' of a foot in May, ().:) of a feet in June, 1.1 feet in July, 0.1 in August, 0.4 in September, (.:i in October. In November it raised 0.4 and in December ".") feet. This year the Rogue' fell 0.,r in June and 0.7 in July. The stream is falling slower so far than it did last year, but those familiar with the river predict that it will make a new low water record this fall, nu i-1wii.ii iii i,,..F I..,-,., .1... . . j ,i ,. i.m i ., jo jmmv ji-nn rumY ill l lie II l M 1 1 II H I )H Ulllll I Ml' I lilt II V years.
