CONTESTS DECIDED
(Continued from page 1.)
"Look out for paint" (July 10).
Kings enmity, created a sensation in his
opening .-ontence.
"If this man MeCurren tells you he
will support Hryan when hf goes home
from this convention ho lies," shouted
Williams. "Don't forget this. He Hes,
and he does not dare to say that he
will either vote or work for the party
leader. Through the columns of bis
chosen organ in Brooklyn he announced
that he will not tolerate Bryan or Bry
nnism. This Judas betrayed the demo
cratic ticket at the last election in "New
York state and defeated the candidate
fur governor, Mr. Hearst."
In the two Ohio district contests the
videnco presented was an exact dupli
cate of that brought out before the
national eonunittee at its inciting on
Monday. There was no appearance of
ilio delegates of the nineteen! h district
seated by the national i ittee on
the peirtoiiiil appeal of Mm Tom L.
lohnson. The committee d to seat
i he contestants who were piesent, but
Inter rescinded that to t ion and has an
nounced it would pass upon the merits
of the ease when the other contests
were voted upon.
Pennsylvania Contest.
When Pennsylvania was reached Chas.
Donnelly and William J. lirennnn pre
rented the ease of the Gnffey men,
while J. Berwond Daly and Lev. Mc
W hist on argued ngainst enn tinning on
ihe roll the delegates who are friendly
to the Pittsburg boss.
Both Donnelly and Brennan argued
i hat GulTey was the logical leader of
the party in Pennsylvania and they
denied t hat he had ever made deals
with the republican bosses, whereby I
they aided in defeating the Bryan men j
in the idty of Philadelphia. He stated
that GulVey had worked unceasingly for
the success of the democratic party, and
declared that but for his efforts and his
liberal use of funds for party use, there
would be no democrat ie party in the
Keystone slate.
Daly and Mc Winston accused the
Pennsylvania boss of selling nut the
party in Philadclphio to the opposition.
He declared that he personally begged
every member of the last state conven
tion to vote in favor of an uninstrncted
delegation to this convention. I
Several Verbal Encounters. !
There, were several heated verbal en j
couuterH during the presentation of the
Pennsylvania case, which was reached ;
long after daylight, and it required rad :
ical measures hy the chairman to keep
peace.
The last case to he taken up was the
content from the District of Columbia,
ind here also the evidence was exactly
ihe same us presented to the committee
Monday. The credentials committee
went into executive session and also
began the discussion of the merits of
each contest.
