E. W. Hostetter, a painter at Jack
sonville, is in the county jail for running
amuck and attempting to shoot with a
rifle. PJetor Ingrnhnm, George N'enher
and City Marshal John Buffer Saturday
afternoon. Hostetter, who had the enu
tract for painting the new liig school.
Saturday went to merchants of Jncksou
ville and warned them nut to extend
credit to his wife.
Shortly afterward Hostetter had a
gold piece changed by Pete lngruhnm.
Half an hour luter he returned aud ac
cused Ingraham of having short-changed
him. He left the place, went home and
secured his rifle. lie then purchased
a box of cartridges at Kenney's and
loading his gun, went-after Tugraham.

loon became au outlaw in St. Johns a
low minutes Saturday. This is iu consequence-
of formal action by the county
commissioners dcchiriug the result of
the election in precinct 91 and proclaim
ing the town dry, as voted al the recent
election.
Until a few days ago the commission
ers were restrained from slapping on the
lirl by au injunction issued by Judge
Canleubein in the circuit court. But
Judge Uunteubeiii hss decided the ob

founded and the injunction was re
moved day before yesterday. A for
mal order wus prepared by the prohibi
tionists and today it was signed und
filed, after the attorneys for the liquor
interests had decided that they would
not make a further fight iu the county
ourt. They will do all their fighting
henceforth in the supreme court.
For St. Johns the saloon is dead. The
future fight iu court is based on the
claim that the drys took un unfair aud
illegal advantage when they united pre
cinct SO with the two St. Johns precincts
in order to secure a majority. Sn sa
loons aro to bo put out of business, from
which Hi. Johns derived a yearly lieeuae
oi $iuKl per year each.
Further (bun proclaiming the result
the countv court took no action toward
losing the suloons. Thut is all it lit
required to do. Anyone who tiuds tba

Sixteen Year Old Daughter of
H. 0. Lumsden, Passes Away
Suddenly, of Diphtheria While
Visiting in Washington.
All Med ford wus shocked this morn
ing ut the sad news of the sudden
death of Ruth Lumsden. the ltt-y ear
old daughter of H. U. Lumsden, who
passed uway last evening after a short
illness which developed into diphtheria,
while she was awav with her mother in
Kent, Wash., visiting at the home, of '
her mother's family. Mie lit heco slight
ly sick during tlm last wck, complain
ing of a sore throat, but no one appa
rently suspected that it was anything
serious until yesterduy, wbeo a telegram
arrived telling of her critical condition.
Mr. Lumsden instantly left for Wash
ington on the early train yesterday
morning, which brought btui to Kent
this moruiug. but too late, for his dungh
te. had died early last evening.
