The quality is magnificent, quantity

of the northwest should take pains to

WATER IN TULE LAKE
IS GRADUALLY FALLING
Reeriit measurements of the water
flowing through the Tule lake outlet
show a decrease of a few second feet.
Several weeks ago the flow was L'l sec
ond feet, but at the last measurement it
was HI feet. The decrease in the flow
is explained by those familiar witlt the
conditions as being due to the fact that
the lake is getting lower, and as Die wa
ter recedes the stream through the out
let decreases, savs Kiamalh Falls Her
aid.
There is at this time uo indication
whatever that the water is running into
ave or cavity that is likelv to fill up.
but those who have been watching the
phenomenon are becoming convinced
that the water finds its way thioiigh a
ubtMTnnenn channel into some river in
( 'alifornia.
Kngineers of tho reclamation service
ire kept informed as to Hie condition
f the outlet, and, and it is verv likelv
that next year a considerable sum will
be set aside to enlarge the oneuhiL' so
that it will be of practical use in the
reclamat ion of t he inundated la mis in
the Tule lake basin.
There has been no work done on the
outlet since earlv in the spring, and it
is thought that the flow could be again
increased to 22 second feet if a chan
nel were dug from the deeper water to
the opening. Tin lake is gradually get
ting lower, but this is due to a measure
only to the outlet, for at this season of
the year the evaporation increases ami
the inflowing water decreases, causing
a gradual receding of the lake.

SOUTHERN OREGON CROPS
NEARLY UP TO AVERAGE
Despite the fact that this has been a
had spring for crops reports from all
pa i ts of 1 he country give assurance
that I hi' yield will be nearly up to the
average. In Klamath county grains are
doing well and on some of the dry land
farms the crops are as far along as they
were at this time last year. Lake county
sends forth tho report that all vegeta
tion is doing well in that section, and
from Modoc county. California, comes
the report that in all parts of that coun
ty the farmers entertain a hopeful view
of the crop sit nnt ion, not wit list and g
the long period of nort h winds. The
rains of the past few weeks have been
'piite general, providing a great boon
to the entire eountrv.
Ten to One. in Favor of Gans.
SAX FRAXCTSCO, .lime 20. The
odds in the (inns-Nelson fight sched
uled for July 4 have dropped a point
and the champion is now a 10-1 favorite
over the Dane. This is not the ring
side price, as (Jans followers have not
yet come through with much coin, and it
is freely predicted that the negro will
be a lit-to 3 favorite on t he day of
the fight. Moth sides are showing much
interest in the betting.
