"I'm iu favor of the occupation tax

CADILAC, Mich., June Kl The whole
city was tihooked this morn Lug by a
tragedy that wiped an entire family
out of existence, when Mrs. Daniel
( 'ropsev , becoming suddenly iusiiuo,
killed her husband nnd six children and
lion committed suicide.
The woman was but 4" years of age,
and no one suspected that she was losing
her mind until the terrible affair of
today was over. She went to bed last
night in a cheerful in ), according to
the neighbors, and got up this morniug
ami prepared breakfast for the family.
As the family was seated around the
breakfast table, Mrs. Cropsey suddenly
apx-ared at the door leading from the
kitchen with a revolver in her hand
and cried: "Hero's whore wo all go.'
With that she turned the revolver on
her husband, instantly killing him with
the first shot . The children, niugiug
from 5 to 18 years in age, were too
shocked to move, and before they hail
lime to say auything, their insane moth
er had killed two of them. The others
run screaming into other parts of the
house; but, reloading her revolver as
she ra n, t ho insane woman followed
them and killed them nil, one after
the other, with her deadly aim.
The nhots had by this time attracted
the attention of neighbors, and some ran
into tho house to see what was the mat
ter. The woman met them at tho front
door and with a wild sriek turned the
revolver to her head ami sent a bullet
through her brain.
WASHINGTON, Juue 13. Through
! inadvertence, the western states con
taining forest reserves will receive
: per cent of the receipts for the sale of
( timber, rental of forest grazing lands,
i concessions and leases for the fiscal
I year ending Jit no 30, li0H, instead of
j 10 per cent which they were expected
i to receive under the agricultural appro
priatiou act passed at the second session
of the oPtb congress. This increase
to tho states for the year P.mih was one
outcome of the fight made against the
forest service policy by certain west
ern senator, notably Senators Heyburu
of Idaho, Teller of Colorado. Carter of
Montana and ( lark of Wyoming.
During the euntroven-y in the senate
on the subject an nineudmcnt to the
agricultural appropriation bill was pro
pjsed providing that per cent of the
inouey received from each forest reserve
should be expended as the state or terri i
tory in which such forest reserve was
located might prescribe. In drafliug the '
amendment the nhgungo of the prior act j
was used, which read, "Including the
year ending Juno .'10, UhiS," nnd the
amendment as thus framed was adopt
ed As the receipts for the current fis
cal year -ending Juue .'to, HHiS, will bo
about 2,ni,00U. the western states will
receive $.HUi,00o for the use of schools,
improvement of roads, bridges, etc., in
stead of $200,000 as was expo ted.
