DIAL POINTS TO HUGHES AS RUNNING MATE FOR TAFT ALLIES AGAINST OHIOAN CLAIM THEY'RE NOT DEAD ra Leader of Allies Will Fight on Convention Floor- Hughes' Victory Makes Him Prominent. With a certainty that Taft will have a wide majority on the first ballot, ac cording to tho formation of the tempo rary roll, and the rather general belief that his supporters will lie able to make the temporary roll permanent with a few ehungos, the interest here in being directed toward the selection of a vice presidential candidate. This is true in spite of the elaiins of t he allies and that they are "uot dead yet." State Senator Alfred I). Page of New York, close personal friend of Govern or Hughes, threw cold water on a move inent to boom him for the vice-presidency, when lie arrived and said: Hughes' Friends' Dental. "Governor Hughes will not accept tho nomination for the vice presidency even if it is offered to him. lie has said that he could not and he meant it when he said it. He is not a candidate for the vice-presidency, and I make this statement with full authority." It is known that Governor II tithes, who is a man of small means, has been forced to pay $25,000 out of his own pocket for expenses during his term of office as governor of New York. It is estimated by his friends th:it he conld easily make HMjmn a year prac tieing law in New York ami that he could not afford to be vice-president. Others contend, however, that his vic tory over the racing interests yesterday has put him in the limelight and say the dial points at him. RECEIVES DIVINE MESSAGE AND PREPARES FOR DEATH PASSAIC, X.
