following letter from the Ashlnnd Com
niereinl club:
' Ashland, Or., June fi. Dear Sir: At
n meeting of the Ashland Commercial
club, Juno 2, 100$, it was unanimously
voted that Ashland celebrate Julv 4th
of this year in n fitting manner. Coin
mittees have been appointed and ar
rangements are well under wav, We
have nuked for special train service
both in the morning and evening. Con
tracts have been pi need for printing,
and large posters will be out within
the next three of four davs. It
hoped and expected that this will be
the biggest celebration ever aeon
southern Oregon, details of which will
be given on hand bills nnd through
the papers.
The Ashland Commercial club invites

tn celebrate with us and to extend this
invitation to every organization and
citizen in your eommuuitv. We are

Bohemia mining camp this year, and
although the season has been somewhat
backward, heavy development work is

MAKSHFIELD. Or., June !. The
Coos Bay coal fields are to afford
new industry which not only promises
to be a big thiug tor the locality, hut
which will be au important factor
the coal trade of the coast. There
has been formed n compauv for the
purpose of briquetting " the Coos Bay
coal and putting it on the market. A
large amount of money in being ex
pended for machinery, which has beer
ordered, nud within u few mouths tin
briquetting plant will be in full oper
ation. The kUu for the establishment is a
tract known as the Archer farm, In
catert near the ('. A. Smith sawmill,
and with a big waterfront on Isthmus
inlet, where there is deep water near
the bay, affording transportation for
both raw material it ml the finished
product.
