tion opposed to the further extension
of the rights of suffrage to women,"

, terests, and only two preachers, bach
elors at that, have tried to hurl the

' of human progress by opposing equal
, rights for the mothers of better and
- wiser men (whose affirmative votes
were ' lout In the intoxicating clamor
of whisky on the one hand and nnti
saloon agitators on the other), we know
that thousands of votes against us have
' been thrown, with characteristic unan
imity, on the side of tyranny, drunk
enness and all unrighteousness on the
one band, and in direct violation of our
flag of truce, ivited (to their shame be
it. spoken) by the aforesaid two preach
ers on theo ther, ; The Oregontnn saw,
five years ago, with wouilerfuly fore
sight, that the present trickery, but
no longer deceiving local option law,
would enable frenzied agitators to keep
up an endless eruption of conflicting

sober and sane enough to repeal it, and

"local option" law was made; a law
which only' lacked the right of women
to petition and remonstrate to niukc
