THE COMINO ATTRACTION.
The advuntc wale of t-uu for "Mm.
Temple's Telegram" opens at Kaskiu'tf
tomorrow (Thursday) morning. The
engagement in for one night, Haturday.
May 1(1, uud the curtain wijl be held
until li o'clock to enable our' inerchantM
to attend. iJclow we give the porrl.md
notice from yesterday's Oregonian:, by
Arthur A. (in-ene:
"It is properly a matter of general
regret t hal tin engagement of ' Mrs.
Temple "s Telegram, the funniest of
recent farces, was fnr one night only.
The Heilig should have been crowded
for at lens! four performances and it is
pruel ically certain that tonight there
would have bct-u a clamor at the box
office, for there would have been no
empty neath had there been more of
this delightful attraction. It was iu
the nature of it return engagement for
the Stock well Maefiregnr compnny
played it here last fall with the great
est success.
Last night 's performance possessed
especial interest from the fact that Wil
liam Rerun id appeared iu the principal
role. Now, Will Bernard is one of
Portland's downright favorites. He has
been known for labors oft and good
these five years and more. As stage
director and actor he Ims filled no small
place iii tho atlentioa of local theater-goei-H
since the orgaui.at ion of the
original Raker Slock company.
It was, therefore, uu added pleasure
to see him iu the leading role of this
excruciatingly funny play, ami to ac
cord him I In- praise which was justly
duo him for a consummate perform
ance. At the end of the second act h
was given an enthusiastic curtain call,
including the customary demand for u
speech, which he failed to accede to.
William Pet nurd will be long remem
bered for his work iu the exacting light
comedy rule of Frank Fuller. It is
among the best things he has ever done
in Portland, and the parts he has
played well here are legion.
Xorval Muctiregor, pleasantly re
membered from his engagement at the
Mil iiinjiiii last summer, appears effect
ively as Jack Temple, and Margaret
Snow, the most recent "College Wid
ow," to visit Portland, played Mrs.
Temple. Joseph Ihiiley, who was also
in the slock season at the Marquam a
year ago, plays the butler very urtia
t ically. Other members of the cast are
new to Ibis city, but each one is (piile
creditable to the maaagemenl, A large
audience liked Mrs. Tcmpel 's Tele
gram' iiumciittcly last night, and as has
been heretofore remarked, I he pity is
that the engagement was so brief. It
is good for other repeats here and the
local public will In' glal to hear of its
retain iu the near future.

COLUMBIA RIVER SALMON
RAPIDLY BECOMING EXTINCT
i'he following is from an editorial
in the Portland Journal relative to the
salmon industry:
Sulniuii are steadily petering out In
the Columbia river. From pienent pros
pects it will only be a few years till
they have almost disappeared. Then peo
plo will wonder why sufficiently striu
gent measures were not taken to pre
serve thin great and vastly valuable
industry. Hut apparently it is impossi
hie to do this. Fishermen are concerned
about profits this year and next rather
than the industry a decade or genera
tion hence.
