Southern California is dependant al

can be raised in California, and the
yield is heavier and pialily superior.
In addition, earth yields its treasures

BEWARE OF LOCATORS
FOR RAILROAD LANDS
Tho following reply was received
from Attorney-Ceneral ltonnparle. iu
response to a letter inclosing a clipping
from an advertisement ,,f ,i profession
al "locator" in Portland, making the
misleading statement I hat llonaparle
was sanctioning the filing on Oregon
California land grunt lands. The
letter from the attorney general ex
pressly stales llial il "would be ad
visable not to make any expendi

cept upon the advice of coinpelent nnd
experienced counsel. The siren song
and glittering promises of the locator
should bo scanned pretty closely be
fore people part with their money:
"It would be u source of pleasure
to me if 1 could write at some length
on the subject, but I am compelled to
say that the interests of the govern
meiit will not permit me doing so. I
can only say Hint the department has
uniformly advised correspondents on
this subject llinl il proposed lo under
take pro,- ling for tho purposes of
testing the rights and icsponsibilil ies
of the present holders of the title lo
the lands to which you refer, and that
il would be advisable not lo make any
expenditures in the premises, except
upon the advi, f coinpelent and ex
ierieiico,l connsil, iu whom implicit
confidence could be placed. Vonrs very
