SAN DIEGO, Oil., April . The
flagship Connecticut, with Ailmiral K.
D. Hvans on hoard, arrived off Coro
nndo early today anil shortly before
noon the admiral was taken off hy the
tender Yltnkton, which arrived yester
day and brought to this city, whore u
private car is at his disposal. The ad
miral plainly showed the effects of ill
ness. He leaves this afternoon for San
Litis Obispo to receive treatment at the
mineral hot spring's.
Regrets Leaving Fleet.
To the Associated I'ress, Admiral
Evans said that he regretted having to
leave the fleet, but the orders of his
physicians wero so imperative that he
could no longer ignore their advice. He
expressed the hope that he would soon
bo able to arrange to visit the fleet.
The Connecticut returns to Magilalenn
Bay immediately. Hoar-Admiral
Thomas is temporarily in command of
tho fleet.
Evans was accompanied ashore by his
son, Lieutenant Frank Taylor Evans,
of tho battleship Louisiana; Lieuten
ant C. It. Train, his flag lieutenant,
and by Past Assistant Surgeon McDon
ald. The admiral was greeted by a con
sidorablo crowd on the dock, and as
sisted into a car. The Connecticut left
Mngdalena liny early Monday morn
ing, making tho run to San Piogo, 020
miles, in a little more than 4S hours.

Evans received today a long letter
of congratulations and roeoniineniinnon
from President lloosevelt. In the
DnxMt terms the nresidout spoke of
the achievements of the fleet on tin
cruise to the Pacific and gave tho ad
miral full share of credit, and ex
pressed the hope of a speedy restora
lion of Kviins' health.
