was the prism contested for.
The speaker went into details eon
cerniug the disgraceful scenes enacted
at Salem, famous session when
tho legislature failed to orgnnizo, of the
numerous deadlocks nud tho forty duys
and forty nights of wasted efforts on
the part of tho people's representatives.
He went over briefly the popular strug
gle fur the direct election of senators
and annouued his . willingness tn abide
by the will of the people.
"If with 30,000 republican majority,
a democrat is elected senator in Oregon,
bv the people. I lien there is something
the matter with the republican party
nud its euudidotc. I do not fear this
result. I niu williug to abide by the
expressed will of the pcoplo. If the
people want a democratic senator, it
is their right to send one, and their in
structions should be observed."
Mr. Cake was frequently interrupted
by applause. He left Friday morning
for Ashland.

in uny saloon, barroom, tippling house
or drinking place or other room, house
or pbee where spirituous, malt, vinous

'Section 1. Hereafter it shall be un
lawful for any person or persons, firm
or corporation engaged, either as owner
or owners, proprietor or proprietors.
