BOURNE HAS NO
SENATORIAL CHOICE
Senator states That He Not In
itrumental in Bringing Oat U'Ren
Will Take No Hand in Primary right,
but Will Assist Statement No. U
WASHINGTON, F?b. 2b. Senator
Borune when asked if Mr. U'Ren is
kia candidate to succeed Senator Ful
ton replied:
41 1 haven't been instrumental either
directly or indirectly in bringing out
and candidate for the senate. Honoruble
W. S. U 'Ren has a perfect right, as has
any United States senator, or any other
uffiee under the Oregon primary law, it
he so desires. 1 have the highest per
sonal regard for Mr. U'Ren. I believe
that he has done nior for our state than
any other 20 men in it to elevato the
political and legislative tone of Oro
gon. I believe' that ho would make an
efficient, able senator. Seuatour r ul
ton, my colleague here, has been a hard
working, able, efficient and influential
public servant. Our relations have al
ways been pleasant, although wo some
times disagree on public questions. Hon
orable 11, M. Cake is a candidate for
the so mi to. He was one of my competi
tors for the primary nomination when I
was nominated and very nearly defeat
ed mo for nomination. Ju fact, for sev
eral days it was assumed that he bod
been the successful candidate. He gave
me very loyal and able support after I
roceived the nomination.
"Tho position I am now in is an em
barrassing and delicate one. In my
opinion it is my duty to tako no hand
in the primary nominations for United
States senator, but it is my duty both
in the primary and general el ec Hi on to
do all in my power for the recognition
rigid enforcement and perpotuation of
tho primary law, including Statement
No. 1. I deem the principle involved
as being of greater importance than
any individual's success, and I reiter
ate my advice to my friends and con
stituenta in Oregon that in their own
interest, in tho interest of cleaner poli
tics, in the interest of true republican
ism and in the interest of completely
enfranchised and ideal American citi
zenship, they vote for Statement No, 1
nominees only for the legislature in
the republican primaries in April, see
that they vote for Statement No. 1
legislative nominees in the June elec
tion and that they vote for their party
nominee for United States senator, in
Oregon tho key to continued triumph
for republican party principles, in the
rulo of the sovereign people, as exem
plified in Lincoln nnd Roosevelt, is the
perpetuation of the true primary elec
tion Inw and Statement No. 1."

t Good Coffee Values X
I was rending about a fellow
who was asked what he had had
f for lunch, nnd he said: "A piece
of haconinc, some almost eggs, a
cup of near coffee and some not
quite pie." Well, you won't find 4
4 any "near coffee" around this -f
shop; that is, if we sell it to you
for coffee. It's easy for a grocer
to give you a good run for your
4- coffee money if he isn't too stin- 4
4- gy. Coffee is lower than ever be- 4
4 fore and qualities better. It all 4
4- depends upon how much a grocer 4
4 is wilting to pay for his coffee.
4 You can buy the real old Govt. 4-
Java or you can buy Java which 4
comes from Hrazil. hut whatever
4 we sell you, whether it bo Java,
4 Mocha and Java or Costa Rira,
4- you may know it is the bett grade 4
4 that can be sold for the money. 4
4 We have a big coffee tle. mid 4
4- that helps us to give you fresh 4
4 roasted eoffte any old day you 4
4 -it it. and not the tasteless kind 4
4 whKh has lost mnM of its stn ngth. 4
4 I expect a lot of ladies in the
4 store today to buy our 25c coffee. 4

CENTRAL POINT VOTES
FOR NEW CITY CHARTER
(Central Point Herald.)
The election held on Tuesday of this
week on the new charter resulted in ait
overwhelming victory fur the friends of
pvogress, and a greater Central Point.
Kighty votes were cast, of" which 72
favored the new charter, with only
eight against the measure. The result
means a great deal to the town, as it
makes possible many much nccdodiui
provementH, which were impossible un
der the old regime.
The next forward step will be a
proposition to bond the town for a
municipal water system, and on alt sides
it is conceded that the vote on Tuesday
may be taken as an index of the result
when the water proposition is submit
ted. Good for Central Point ! The old
town is waking up and taking her place
among the best towns of southern Ore
