The Southern Oregon state normal
school has the second largest enroll
ment of the normal Bchools of the state.
One hundred and sixty-six students are
attending the academic department
here, while there is an attendance of
180 at Weston.
Having had a large class in the study
of "Tho Merchant of Venice." the
first semester, the normal was well rep
resented at that play given by Han
ford at the opera house last Thursday
evening.
Professor H. T. Sutton has organized
an advanced class in elocution, which
will give a recital in the chapel in the
near future.
Last Wednesday noon the Y. W. C.
A. held their annual eleetion of offi
cers for the ensuing vear. Miss Nita
Greninger was elected president, Miss
ina Kame vice-president, Miss Myr
tle Farnham. secretary and Jon Cham
berlain treasurer. Miss Nita Grenin
ger being unable to accept the office,
resigned, and a president will be elect
ed next Wednesday.
The Y. M. C. A. held thoir usual de
votional meeting Wednesday. A large
number attended. "The Cost of Liv
ing a Christian Life" was led by Pro
fossor A. C. Joy, followed by a free
discussion.
All the boys of the school are en
joying cross-country runs every eve
ning. The juniors have challenged the
rest of the school for a track meet,
which will bo hold in the near future.
The senior class has begun prepa
rations for commencement in June and
intend to have some of the best exer
cises that havo evor been rendered
for their special efforts which they arc
now making.
The faculty has decided to devote
Tuesday and Thursday mornings in
chapel to singing. A great .many stu
dents are taking music under Miss
Silsby, the vocal teacher, and also a
large class is under the supervision of
Mrs. S. F. Neil, the instrumental teach-

the normal, will give an entertainment
at the opera house March II. After
this they will make a trip to Central

We are now planning for a normal
paper for the benefit of the students
and the public.
Mr. II. L. Whited has offered a sil
ver medal to the student who, with
the approval of the faculty, succeeds
in gaining the highest honors in the
oratory department, so that all stu
dents will be able to enter the contest
the oratory will be conducted with the
regular Literary societ ies.
