Next Attraction at Medford Opera
House, "Old Ark:msar."
Everything tli;it mid: a nival ami ar
tistic ingenuity can ufii-r has been
brought to bear in the production of
"Old Arkansaw," and the resuti is u
Aeries of pictorial, sensational and me
chanical effeets that make recent dra
matic productions uf this kind look
tame by comparison. The play is in
four acts. Complete sets of special
scenery and stage en iiouments are car
ried for each act, and t he following
scenes of the play, viz.: "The Kailroad
Uold-LTp,' "The Arkansas Mob
Scene," "The Jail-lirea king Scene, ' '
"The Conservatory Scene," and "The
Electric Fountain." "Old Arkansaw"
is fro mthe prolific pen of Mr. Fred
Kayinond, whose reputation as an au
thor has been established by several
previous works of high order of merit,
including his comedy successes, "The
Missouri Girl" and "My Frisky Pad."
Jt is certain, however, that the inten
sity of purpose, thoroughness of char
acter delineation and absorbing dra
matic interest exhibited in "Old Ark
ansaw" places it above any of his pre
vious efforts, both as a valuable acqui
sition to dramatic literature and as a
lasting tribute to the genius of its au
thor and manager. The play is a rural
inelodraintaic comedy with a theme
absolutely original; an intricate plot
full of heart interest and stirring sit
uations, with a delicious vein of pure
comedy running through it. The com
pany is made up of the- best talent that
can be procured in the dramatic and
vaudeville lines. Numerous specialties
and musical numbers are introduced
during the action of the play. A first-lass
attraction in every respect is prom
ised the patrons of the Medford Opera
House Tuesday Februarv 18.

Shakespeare Says
- "There is a tide in the affairs of men,
Which, taken at the flood,
: Leads on to fortune.
And there is a tide in the souls of
1 men, which, taken at the. flood, leads
on to heaven ; but if persistestty op
posed, leads dow nto eternal night.
, Fortv-nine men out of 50 believe in
a Geu and a hereafter. The majority of
i unprejudiced thinkers who have care-
! ful'v studied the life of Christ are ready
to admit that he was the purest char-a-tor
and the greatest teacher that ever
lived. Once he said: "And I, if I be
lifted up, will draw all men unto me."
Through the church, Christ is carrying
on his great work of lifting men hea
venward. At present h genuine evan
gelical revival is in progress at the
Methodist Episcopal church, 1J street.
Rev. Van Marter presents gospel truth
in a clear, earnest convincing manner,
and insists in thorough work. Christ's
gospel is more than a reformation. It
is a regeneration and a transforma
tion. The holy spirit, the great dyna
mic force in the kingdom of God, con
victs, regenerates and purifies men. He
is now knocking at the hearts of the
people in Medford. Will the people of
this prosperous town admit him, or say,
with Felix, "Go thy way for this time;
when I have a more convenient season
1 will call for thee?"
Preaching tonight by Rev. Van Mar
ter, twice tomorrow and every night
next week. Everybody invited.
"Almost persuaded, harvest is past;
Almost persuaded, doom comes at last;
A I m ost ea n not a va il ,
Almost is but to fail,
Sad, sad, that bittel wail,
Almost, but lost."
