JACKSONVILLE
SCHOOL HOUSE
One of the Handsomest and Best Ap
pointed Schoolhouses in the State
Completed Plumbing, Heating and
Architecture by Medford Men.
(From Jacksonville Post.)
From basement to roof, bot h inside
and out, t"o completeness, durability
and appearance of the building id one
of the finest, size considered, that was
ever erected in the Btate of Oregon.
Surely the taxpayers of Jacksonville
and vicinity should bo proud of their
new school building and the board of
trustees who have worked so diligently
and faithfully to bring about such ad
mirable results.
The building is two stories in height
with a basement, built of brick and con
crete, absolutely fireproof, steam heat
ed, as an excellent water system, elec
tric lighted, roomy, light and well ven
tilated. An interesting featuro of the new
building is the steam heating plant,
which was installed by W. A, Aitken
of Medford and which cost $2275. In
tho first place, everything connected
with the plant is fireproof. Where it
was necessary to use wood, metal lath
and plaster have been put on, nnd tho
largo flu eentcrs a solid wall of con
crete and brick and is at least eight
feet from any wood.
The trustees are more than pleased
with Mr. Aitken 's excellent work, as
not a particle of trouble has been ex
perienced since the plant was first in
stalled. The boiler comes from Chi
cago and is one of the best manufac
tured. It has an automatic heat reg
ister, so that when a certain amount of
steam is raised the register shuts off
the heat and no possible accidents can
occur.
A pipe line is being laid from G. E.
Xeuber's water tank to tho school
building and water will gravitate from
there and a hydrant will bo placed in
tho basement, from which place the
janitor will distribute water for drink
ing purposes to the various departments,
And so wo say, hats off to Messrs.
Beekman, Kenney and Applegate, for
they are the real men behind this beau
tiful and commodious school building;
tho men who are responsible for bring
ing to Jacksonville the handsomest and
safest school building this district ever
had.
This building was planned by Med
ford's brilliant young architect, John
Mcintosh.
