this little town was In attendance at
the comedy given by Mr. and Mrs.

nix. Every one was well pleased.

Died In Phoenix, November 5, of
I dropsy, Herman Wright, oldest son
of Mr. and Mrs. J. Wright. The lit
tle fellow, has been a great sufferer
for the past three years. His par
ents took him to Portland over a
year ago, where he underwent an op
eration. But all that medical skill
could do was of no avail. He was.

property. They expect to remain
there this winter.
W. Bowman, who came up from
Southern California several weeks
ago in order to be here to vote, re
turned to Los Angeles Saturday,
where he will spend the winter.
' Mrs.' O. F. King returned to her
home at Eureka, Cal., Sunday after
several weeks' visiting among her
many friends In this city. Mr. King
will remain here for a while to at
tend to some business matters.
Every prunegrower In the valley
should attend the meeting called for
Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at
the Commercial club rooms In Med
ford. There are matters going to
come up for discussion which will be
of Interest to every grower of prunes
in Southern Oregon, and none are
there who can afford to miss attend
ing this meeting.

Attorney W. D. Fenton of Port
land was In the city on his way to

iness matters. Mr. Fenton expressed
surprise at the growth of Medford
and was pleased to note the spirit
of thrift shown In putting down ce
ment sidewalks and In street paving.
Irvln McCall has moved from
Prospect to Medford and will reside
here. He has purchased a lot in
Sunnyslde Addition and has erected
a temporary dwelling thereon. He
expects later to build a fine resi
dence.
Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sautter of
Reading, Pa., arrived In the city yes-
terday. They have been Intending
to locate here should conditions be
to their liking. They are greatly
pleased with the outlook for the city
and valley so far as they have seen it.
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Mackrille or
Washington, D. C, stopped off from
No. 15 yesterday. They have been
looking over Idaho and Washington
and have stopped at several points
between here and Portland. They
are hunting a place to make their
home and are greatly pleased with
the looks of this valley and city.
W. M. Floyd and family of Los
Angeles, Cal., arrived in the city yes
terday. Mr. Floyd recently bought
the Purdln property, corner Sixth
and Bartlett streets, from Mr.
Schutte. They have been spending
the past six weeks ' visiting in the
states of Illinois, Washington and
Colorado, and are now here with a
view ot remaining.
Messrs. H. D. and F. C. Ed meads,
recent arrivals In Medford from
Greenburg, Ind., have leased what
Is now the Hotel Moore dining room
and between the middle of December
and the first of January will open a
boot and shoe store therein. . These
gentlemen are experienced men in
this line of business and they expect
to carry a large stock.
Street-paving work took a rest yes
terday, owing to the fact that the
supply of fine rock for use In the
top dressing was temporarily ex
hausted. The contractors have had all kinds
of hard luck In getting out rock at
the quarry. The opening of a new
quarry Is always a slow and tedious
Job and not even at this time has the
company gotten it In shape so that
sufficient room Is given for both
crushers to work advantageously. An
other cause of delay was the break
ing of one ot the crushers. This,
however, Is now at work, and with
the two crushers working night and
day It is expected there will be but
little delay In the progress of the
work If, If the weather keeps good.
'Workmen are busy putting In the
water connections on Central avenue
before the paving starts on that
street.
C. R. McClintock came In from
the mines In the Sterling country
yesterday. He reports favorable
prospects.
Mrs. H. G. Shearer returned yes
terday from Oakland, Cal., where she
had been visiting a brother, who is
quite 111.
F. W. Richardson ("Baldy"), from
the Soldiers' Home at Roseburg, was
In the city yesterday on his way to
his former home In Klamath county.
Ivan Blebersteadt ot Willow Creek
is In Medford, having brought in 1$
head of fine beet cattle which he sold
to Huth ft Ashpole. He tells that
there are a great many bears In his
locality this year. That being the
case, he and his band of dogs are hav
ing all kinds ot a good time.
