LOS ANGELES, Cal., Aug. 6.
Mrs. Cora Cummlngs Is In the hos
pital today, after drinking carbolic
acid and describing on paper the aw
ful pain she suffered before she lost
consciousness. Grief over the death
of her two babies and homesickness
for her mother, who lies at Spokane,
Wash., caused the woman to attempt
suicide. After drinking the fatal
acid thed esnondent woman seized a
pencil and wrote:
"Guy, my dear, I feel no pain, only
a bad stomach ache.
"Oh, do try; maybe "
"I hope not when you come I'll be
dead. Just think dead! Won't It
be funny?
"The pains are so bad. Don't you
ever do as I did. It Is awful.
"Don't ever do as I have done. It
Is awful. I can't stand It. Oh, Guy,
it's worse and worse; It Is killing me.
I wish .-"
At this point the pencil dopped
from her fingers and she fell to the
floor. Her husband, who was near
the house, heard her cries, and rush
ing In called an amnulance. Hts
prompt action will probably result In
her life being saved.
