Buchneff, a 14-yoar-old lad, whose
body was found burled In a bin of
garbage at the sanitary reduction
works last night, was murdered and
the body thrown Into the bin to con
ceal the eridences of crime, the po
lice today placed August Delmonte
an employe of the plant, under ar
rest, pending further Investigation
A post-mortem examination showed
the boy came to his death from a
wound In the Bean such aa might
have come from the prong of a rake
or a small-caliber bullet. No bullet
was found however. The police are
working on the theory that the boy
was playing la a bin and when or
dered away did something to anger
some employe, who struck Mm In th
head, and when the assailant discov
ered the boy fatally hurt, It Is be
lieved he threw the body under the
garbage In the hope that It would bo
consumed without discovery.

MINER KILLED!
Charles Herbert Caught by a Care-In
In tne Queen of Bronie Mine.
Charles Herbert, a miner about 50
years old, wss killed at 12:20 a. m.
last Friday morning In the Queen
of Bronze mine, about 50 miles south
of here. Mr. Herbert had gone ou
rhlft only a few hours before, tie
was engaged in stoplng cn the upper
level when a mass ot rock weighing
about five tone fell upon him, crush
ing his skull and body. Death leurt
have been Instantaneous. The fore
man had gone Into the mine, nnvie
herbert waa at work, at frequent In
tervals to see that everything was all
right, and had been In the tunnel
about an hour before he discovered
the accident, on his last visit.
Herbert bad been In the district
but a couple of weeks and litt:o wss
known ot him and none of his co-
laborers at the mine knew the ad
dress of any relative of the dead nan
Coroner 8trlcker waa notified by
phone and P. B. Oldlng took hlt-t to
the scene of the accident In one ot
bit Maxwell touring cars, arriving at
the mine Friday noon. This was the
first time an automobile had oeen at
the Queen of Bronze, owing to tb
rough roads and heavy grades.
Coroner Strieker, after viewing the
remains of the dead man, Impaneled
a Jury and held an Inquest. It was
the decision ot tb Jury thst Herbert
lost his life as tb result of an un
avoidable accident. The remains
were Interred In tb Waldo cemetery
