that tbey do not add any tblng to tbe
beanty of the strreet they arc tbe
canes of the obstruction of tbe gut

heavy rain storm. At present
glance up or down Seventh street
shows tbe poles la very irregular
line. When tbey are placed Inside
of tbe onrbing end In a straight line
tbey will look some better at any
rate. The reason that tbe Enalneer
took np the matter at the present
time la that Seventh street Is soon to
be paved and the polee mnet be oot

Intention to move the pole. .. soon

view wltb a representative of the
MaU stated tbat be bad nearly com
pleted tbe preliminary survey for the
ooal toad to Ashland. Tbe men wno
oootrol tbe mine are making all pre
paratl ins for putting the load horn
the mine to Ashland, Tbe road will
he over 9 mllel In length. It la ex
peoted tbat tbe right of way will be
secured won and actual work start
ed.
It Is understood tbat tbe oltlzens
of Atnland raised 115.000 as a subsidy
fot th. road betides givlog tbe eom-
pany a riflbt-of.way free of oost to
the owners of the mine. The survey
ors bave been at woik for some time
aud bave nearly oompltted the pre.
limlnary work.
The owners of the mine endeavored
to have tbe road come to Medfoid
forming a junction with tie South
em Pu...: ' e'polnt about on .rile
soutb of the oil, . V't they were un
able to obtain a right of way. They
were then forced to look tor auother
way for tbair road aod- decided tbe
matter by going to Ashland.
While the distance is considerably
further to Asblaed than to Medford
bo subsidy granted the road by Alb
land make. It possible for the road
to be built that distance without
greater investment on tbe part of tbe
mine owners.
The fact tbat tbe road Is going to
be built to Ashland instead of Med'
fold will not binder the solution of
fuel question for oual will be obtain
able and with tbe question solved a
great many of tbe natuial resources
of tbe valley can be, and will be
developed.
