Vawter has Qledwitb the secre tary of state bla petition for renomin ation as joint representative for Jack aon and Dougiaa counties. Mr. Vawter Beta forth in bis peti tion tbat be will vote for that candi date for United Statea senator who has been eleoted by the people wbiob faot alone should go a long ways in commending him to the confidence of the voters. He promises to aid in legislation that will require the state treasurer to account for all Interest reoeived on publio funds. A law of that obarao- ' ter would save the poople of Oregon many thousands of dollars 6B0h yeal In state taxes. He also favors a trlngent law governing state banks and requiring state banking instltu- . tlons to make periodical roportB of their business. t Mr. Vawter occupied a prominent ; position in the last legislature, fie represents no faotlon, ia under no obligation to any wring of the party and nls conscientious work during laut session should oommend hi in to the voters of the ninth representative dlatrlot. ,; A dovoted public servant 1b always entitled to a seoond term. . Mrs. Uertrude Nixon, wife of Robt , Nixon, the veteran editor of the .Yreka Journal,, died at her borne In Yreka last XueBday, aged sixty-one years. The sympathy of the oraft is extended to Editor Nixon In bis afHtoticn. It's a pretty hard matter to tell the ' people of Jackson county anything about Qarl T. Jones, the present oounty surveyor, and candidate for re-nomination. Everybody knows him, and knows him for a competent, careful and conscientious civil engi neer. For three successive torms Mr. Jones has been eleoted to the office of county surveyor, without a great deal of effort on bis part, whioh, In itself, shows the esteem and confidence the people have lu blm. He is thorough ly familiar with the whole oounty and his long experience in the olllce makes blm a very valuable man tor the plaoe. Senator Fulton Is energetically op posing the oreatlon of the Rogue river forest reserve. Forester Plu ohot, however, can see no reasou why the reserve Bhould not be oieat ed, and will likely reoommend It, in whioh event Senator Fulton will ap peal directly to tbe president. Thore la strong opposition to tho setting apart of the reserve by tbe rosidenta of the counties affected. They olaim tbat the neoesalty does not exist, that muoh of the proposed reserve ie mineral laud and that a considerable amount of good agricultural land is contained therein and that the creation of the reserve will retard the development of the oountry. At the request of bia many friends Couaty Commissioner Joshua Patter son has consented to become a can didate for re-dominatton on the Re publican tloaet. There are a whole lot of reasons why Mr. Paltorson should be re-elooted and most of them are to be found In bla record during tbe past four years. He has been at tentive to Mb duties and has brought the olear-boadod bualueaa sense, for whioh he is noted, to bear upon . the administration of oounty affairs with tbe result tbat Jaokson county has been greatly benefitted thereby. Still In Ibe Race. An item In the Ashland Tldinm of Maroh 19th, on the state senatorial contest haa created the impression among some of the people that W. II. Tea is a healthy beverage, and a cheap drink. Oue pound of good drinking tea if properly brewed will make 250 cups. Merchants can not give a uniform tea when buying on an open market. You can not know tea by its appearance. The only way to test tea is to cup it. This we are not prepared to do, bi t we have availed ourselves of the exper ience and ability of a reputable firm in San Francisco and purchased through them our tea for the year. The tea will come direct from Japan as soon as ready to ship. We have a limited quantity in stock. Try it, tea that is best by test. Try it, and if you like it you will know where to get it.
