Tbe protraotod meeting Is still go ing on and there sepma to be some good being done. There have been Eve additions to tbe ohuroh, three by letter and two ou oonresuion, since I last wrote. Rev. b'errell anuounoed last night, Monday, that tbe meeting would contiuue over uext.Sunday. Eagle Point is going to have a new physician. Dr. Wm. W. P. Holt, of Portland, was here one day last week and looked over the situation and re turned to Portlaud, leaving woid that he would return in the course of ten days and take up the praotioe of med ioine here. He will reuelve a oordial weloome, for we have been needing a good dootor here for a long time. MIsb Bertha Peachey was a pleaBant caller on some of her many friends here last week and attended tbe enter tainment given by the sohool. She has been employed to teaoh in the same school where she has been teach ing for two terms and the board has raised ner wages. She is to oommenoe her sohool as soon as the oondition of the roads wilt permit. I omitted, nnlntentionally,Ia8txrf-ek to compliment the publisher of The Mail on getting out euoh an edition of that paper. Why, it would rofleot oredit on one of - the metropolitan pa-' pera and then to get so muou in so small a space, and to tell so much -and yet the half has not been told -about our valley and resonroes. Oingoade, were driving from here to the residence of Gub NicholB in the dark the team ran olf of a culvert ana threw botb men out of the rig into the mud. Fortunately the lines caught in the wheel and wrapped around tbe axel and after the horses had run a short distance they stopped near the residence of Frank Lewis. Wm. Perry was kicked last Sunday evening by one of his horses. He had led them out to water and they com menced to play and one of.tnem run forward the lengtn of hiB halter ropp and kicked at the other horse, but struck Mr. Perry with one foot on tbe arm and with the other on the side of the body below the arm. Fortunately there were no bones brukeu, but be was badly hurt. He held onto the horses, but had to lav down on the ground and in a short time his brotb-et-in-law, J. W. Grover, missed bin) and on going out found him in that oonitiou. He is able to go aiound, but is quite aore from tbe effects of the blows. The entertainment given laat Friday night by the sohool children was pro nounoed a graud success. There were two different plays, the flrat by elev en girls, "The New Professor," and they did themaelves great oredit. The other was played by eleven boys, "The Recruiting Offloer," and eaob " oarried his part with great suooess. During both plays the players were greeted with applause. The receipts of the evening at the door and selling votes, on whioh of the girs performed tbelr parts the belt, was 823.85. Af ter paying the expenses and the bal ance due on the organ for the school there was left $2.90 toward buying a flag for the sobool house. In a short time we expeot to be able to rally around the stars and stripes floating over our school house. Last Friday, the lGth, being my seventy-fourth birthday, Mrs. Howlett and the two girls conoluded that they would celebrate the event by having a birthday party on Sunday, March 18th, so they invited a few of our old time friends and some of more recent date, to come in and take dinner with us. Among them were: Mr. and Mra. J. J. Fryer, Mrs. A. N. Thomas and daughter, Mrs. Mae Stickle and two children, Grandma Heckathorn, G. W. Daley, Sr., and family, James Ringer, Wm. Abbott, Rev. and Mis. Ferrell, besides our regular ooardera George Daley brought over his violin, guitar and mandolin, and he played the violin, Mrs. Daley the mandolin and Miss Maggie the guitar, and a part of the time Mrs. Ferrell played on the organ. I tell jou it becun to make me feel young again to have old time friends of forty years ago meet with us and all hands enjoy such muslo as we nad that Sunday afternoon. Sign Manual of the Child That Does Not Chang-e In Life. There Is born with every one of us and continues unchanged during our lives an unfailing and Ineradicable mark or marks, which absolutely dis tinguish each one of us from every oth er fellow being. These physical marks never change from tbe cradle to the grave. This born autograph is impos sible to counterfeit, and there is no du plicate of it among the teeming billows in the world. Look at the insldes of your hands and the soles, of your feet; closely examine the ends of your An gers. You see circles and curves and arches and wboris, Boine prominent with deep corrugations, others minute and delicate, but all a well defined and closely traced pattern. There Is your physiological signature. Run your hands through your hair and press finger tips on a piece of elenr glass. You see all the delicate tracing transferred not two fingers alike. Even "the left hand knoweth not what, the right hand doeth." They are distinctly different Even twins may tie so little different in size, features and general physical condition as to be scarcely dis tinguishable, yet their finger auto graphs are radically different In fact, In all humanity every being carries with him on his baby fingers and his wrinkled band of decrepit old age the identical curves, arches and circles that were born with him. Noth ing except dismemberment .can oblit erate or disguise them. Criminals may burn and sear their bands, but nature, when she restores the cuticle, Invaria bly brings back the natal autograph. In reply to the question in what en gagements he considered himself to have been In tbe greatest danger of .losing his life Napoleon ouce said, "In the commencement of my campaigns." .Indeed, if further proof were demanded to show that he did not spare himself :et Toulon it is only necessary to add that during the teu weeks of its siege Napoleon, in addition to a bayonet wound in bis thigh, had three horses shot under him, while at the siege of Acre during the expedition to Egypt be lost no fewer than four In the same 'manner. During the lust days of his life, when captivity, disappointment und sickness bud well nigh completed their work, it Ib Bald tbat the agony of his fatal dis ease drew from him on many occasions the pitiful cry of, "Why did the cannon balls spare me?" During bis long military career Napo leon fought sixty battles, while Caesar fought but fifty. In the eariy part of his career he was utterly reckless of danger while on the battlefield, and this spirit of fearlessness contributed large ly to tbe love and esteem in which lie was held by his armies. There was a curious belief among the English in Na poleon's tlmo that he had never been wounded, and indeed the report was current that he carefully if not in a cowardly manner refrained from ex posing himself. Nothing could be more contrary to the truth, for he was in re ality several times severely wounded, but as he wished to impress upon his troops the belief that good fortune nev er deserted him nnd tbat, like Achilles, be was well nigh Invulnerable, he al ways made a necret of his many dan gers. He therefore enjoined once for all upon tbe part of bis Immediate staff tbe most absolute silence regarding flit circumstances of this unture, for it Is almost impossible to calculate the con fusion nnd disorder which would have resulted from the slightest report or the smallest doubt relative to his existence, Upon the single thread of this man's life depended not only the fate and gov ernment of a great empire, but the whole policy and destiny of Europe as well. HE above picture of the man unci hsh is the trade mark of Scott 's Emulsion, and is the synonym for strength and purity. It is sold in almost all the civilized coun tries of the clobe. If the cod fish became extinct it would be a world-wide calam it v, because the oil that comes from its liver surpasses all other fats in nourishing and life-giving properties. Thirty years ago the proprietors of Scott's Emul sion found a vay of preparing cod liver oil so that everyone can tuke it and get tho full value of the oil without the objectionable taste. Scott's Emulsion is the best thing in tho world for weak, backward children, thin, delicate people, nnd nil conditions of wasting and lost strength. 8ead tor frr umplt SCOTT & BOWNE, CHEMISTS w-u run mm, irew Ton Oc nd 11.00. Hornblowor Ins' night defunded his original approva' of the Becrg pension plan and whlci: was assailed by Andrew Hamilton when the la.ter appeared before th Legislative Insurance Coinmitieo a; Albany. In the course ot his rc marks in wnich he declared that h transactions wl.h the late John A. He did not men tion any names in this connection. Augustus G. Paine, a member of tilt auditing committee of tae New York Life, last night said: "Tho auditing committee nevei knew that there was such a man as Andrew Hamilton living until the Armstrong committee unearthed him and I think this is true of many othei trustees. As to the 'Paris fee ac count,' no trustee ever heard of It until the Fowler committee discov ered it. Then It was found that pay ments had' been made to Hamilton by the order of John A. McCall. Th? auditing committee never had his tie counts and his name never appearen on our boolts so far as 1, myself, per sonally kTiow. "I do not see how any credit car be given to these utterances. Y::i may say for me, positively, that nevar knew of the exlrtanco of th's man Hamilton until the lnve.-itigv tlon. What he says should carry no weight. His very wordB discredit him." When asked if the suit against the estate of John A. McCall would be dropped ho replied: "I am not now In a position to answer." Hiram H. Steele of the auditin oommlttee said: "Whether the trustees were aware of the things that Mr. Hamilton talks about I am .not at all sure. That the trusteed can tell fox themselves. The auditing committee reported on the facts as it found them, and the whole thing is now in the hands of the at torney selected to adjust Hamilton's affairs for the company. I must Bay that I don't exactly seo what Mr. Hamilton Is driving at. As I am not a trustee, however, I don't feel called ;uj)ou to vonturo an opinion."
