Tbe time baa now oome when tblB timber is demanded in tbe markets of tbe world. The quality of tbe lumber made from this timber is suoh as to insure tbe top prloe in tbe markets. The lata development lu tbe truit box industry has created a demand for the poor grades of lumber, wbioh was un saleable in former years. A ppouliarity of tbe timber of the Coast and Cascade ranges is that it quiokly reproduces Itself afUr the timber baa been logged, so that it is q it long after all tbe merchantable timber has been removed until a sec ond urup comes ou. . Tbe development of this great, lat ent source ot wealth has begun in nr S!t m ; ..; I ; i GRANITE HERE An Average Sized ugar Pine Tree P.'ooto by Dul bodies of sugar and yellow pine mixed witb fir, to be found south of Fuget Sound. The pine Is of a particularly i. bigb grade, many of trie sugar pines being from live to eight leet in dia meter, and of suob immense beigbth that from six to eight 16-foot outs onn be taken from a single tree. The growth is exceed ngly dense. One ' large traot oruised 960,000,000 feet, or 40,000 feet to tire acre, 40 per cent of whioh was high grade pine. It 1b earnest. Men of capital and exper ience in lumbering have acquired tracts of timber in the Bogus River forests and are making preparations to do work on a large scale. These operations will not only afford em ployment for a great many men, but will furnish a steady home market for local produce and add many thousand dollars to the wealth of tbe community. There are two briok yards in Medford, each witb a oapaoity which iB meeting tne present demands, and whioh can and will be .increased as the demand warrants. ONE MAN'S HKN l-'ARM. Mr. I. A. Merrimau, living a couple of miles north from Med ford, has given ub a few figures which very plainly prove that there Is good money to be made from raising poultry, but as Mr. Merrimau makes a business only of raising poultiy for tbe egg revenue, of oourse tbe profits In the bustueia oau only be calcu lated from tbat view point. Rogue River affords, in season, tbe rlnest fishing to be fouua anywhere. Rainbow, out throat and steelh'.ad trout abound, and are as game as tbe most ardent disoiple of iBuak Wal ton oould wish. There Is anothersprlng Dairying in Jackson County JaokBon oounty has many attraotive features for tbe dairyman, although this brauch of bueiueBB haB not been very extensively followed heretofore. Of late, however, nioro interest is being tHken in dairying, and those who follow tbe business in asystematio manner find it protltuble, and wby shouldn't it be? Food can be pur chased at reasonable prioes aud our mild climate enables the husbandman to keep a oow on mucn lees feed than aud we believe would bo remunera tive. At certain seasons of the year growers of perishable fruits are some times obliged to ship on a weak mar ket because they have uo means of boldlug their fruit tor better prloeB. With an adequate cold storage plunt here, tbat difficulty oould be avoided, to tbe advuntage of botb tbe owner uf the plant and the fruit grower, and this is but one of tbe many sourcts of revenue of Buob a plant.
