Jack Kimball has had twenty-one head of hogs iu Hare island for some time and desiring to Jbriug them over to JiucK lsiaud urove tnem onto a barge last Friday to be towed down to the latter inland by the Wiuema. Floyd Buldwlu assisted Jack iu get ting the porkers aboard the barge. The ropes holding the barge to the steamer wers fastened in such a man ner that the forepart of the barge was submerged in the water when the Bteamer got under way aud as a con sequence the squealers slid off the barge into the water Of course this made poor Jack orazy ; oue can image how the atmosphere was tinged with a purple shade of blasphemy as our erstwbile genial Jack swore like a trooper at seeing his preciouB swine risk their valuable lives on the murky waters of the Upper lake. Jack and Floyd jumped into a row boat and pulled out into the midst of the swim ming hogs to reuder any assistance they could to the uufotuuate animals. Jauk observed that au old sow was keeping her head above water with difficulty aud having Floyd row up close to her, Jack succeeded in get ting a line around her aud towed her safely back to Bare island. All the hogs swam for their former home on Bare island and out of the twenty-two only three were lost by drowning. Mouday morning at 1:30 a waitress employed at the Lukeside Inn known as Alice Selvey, attempted suicide by drinking a large dose of wood alcohol Mi sua Seivey came to her room iu the hotel after midnight Sunday night aud after she turned out the light and before retiring was heard to drink something by her room mate. May Ken roe r. iuiss suroer sot up and turning on the light discovered a note Alice had written and which read as follows: 'Muy : Please as a last re quest burn the box under the bed and all of its contents, uud you wout read them, will you. May; and telegraph to w. J. Kinney at the Kio vista Hotel, San Francisco, Ca). He will take my body. Alice. " Realizing that Alice had attemped to commit sucide by drinking some poison may roused some of the people at the hotel i u order that a doctor might be called. Doctor Hurgus wab sent for and arrived in the course of half an hour. In the meantime au effort was made to induce the unfortunate woman to drtuk a mixture of milk and eggs to counteract the effect of the poison, but she sot her teeth together firmly that the attendants could not accomplish their purpose. The doctor, upon tiis arrival, applied the stomach pump to tho patient and barely saved ber life. If the doctor had not arrived promptly the unfor tunate woman would not have lin gered in hei misery long or would have been paralyzed or blinded. At this writing tho patient is doing well and the prospects are that she will fully recover from the eil'ecta of the rash act. Klnmutb Falls Kcublicau. Vm. Speuce, who owns a ranch at Bulls bay ud Upper Klamath lake, and moved to Lauulcouuty where be pur chased a tract of land, has sold out aud returned to Klamath county, ac companied by his wife, daughter, Lreuo, aud sou, Will. (J. L. Noel, the builder for the Klamtttu Lake Lumber Company, states tuut the plauor for the sash and door factory, which has recently beeu built near Hank's landing, was brought down the lake yesterday. Tho new factory will be ready for business next week. Miss Kuby Beatrico JHatton, of II uy wards, aud Mr. Bonjumin F. Mc Coy, of Berkeley, Calif., were mar ried at St. Luke's Episcopal church on Yen Ness avenue, in San Francis co, on Wednosday.July 26, 1005. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Burr M. Weedeu, in the preseuoe of only of the immediate relatives. Word was received last week by J. V. Houston of the death of his brother-in-law, Thomas McClaren, which occurred at Lisbon, Ohio, on July 15th. Mr. McClaren snent about six years in Klamath Falls and returned to nis old home about a year ago. Ho was a law partner of Col. C. A. Cogswell and agout of the Oregou aud California Land Company,. He was a resident of Reuo, Nevada, a number of years oeiore nis ueatn. N. Nathan, secretary and treasurer of tho Weed Lumber Company, ao oompauled by a party of prominent Sa t Franoiscoiaus, arrived in the city Tuesday evening, ou a pleasure trip, ino party lucludes: A. l. rey ser, L. Nathan, I. F. N orris, M. L. Kuphart, H. Nathan and C. II. Truel llnger. The party was met at the ter miuus of the Weed railroad by W. S. Worden and conveyed to Teeters Landing, and from there they came to Klamath Falls by tho launch Ewau ua. They will spend a week or so in the county aud will be entertained by W. S. Worden.
