Mrs. Esther Sinelare, of Central Point, oamo out Inst week to vieit her sister, Mrs. A. M Thomas. Mrs. Osear Simpnins, of Wood ville, came up last Monday to yieit her BiBter, M-s. Frank Lewis. Irwin Daley, while wo. king with a crosscut Baw, got hie fingers caught and badly cut in Beveral places.i ,i .: t'.lh I' uii ? . A. J. Daley put an advertiee " Dien in this week's Mail, offering ' his saw mill; on Round Top, for Bale at a oargsin. .. . , . Eli Ellis, of Athland, put in his appearuuce at the Sunny Side last Monday. .' He is here on business "connected with land matters. '- . Mr. West, the eflk-i-nt. road supervisor,' of Antelope ilia'rict, hap ..been working the rond which leads up the hill from Engle Point. A laage number of bur 'citizens observed Decoration Day by going to their respective cemeteries, many of them going to Cental Point and Medford. Thomas Cingcade, while work ing with the piledriver at the Antelope bridge, got hiB thumb badly injured by tearing the flesh from the bone. Mr. Owings, while riding up the hill from Eagle Point to bis home, was thrown out of the hack and bruised hia leg very badly, fortu nately there were no bones broken. Mrs. 0. P. McGee, who has been stopping at the Sunnyside for the laBt month, started for her home in Vancouver, Wash., on Thursday of laBt week, greatly improved in health. On Friday of last week Misses Annie and Phxebie Vinson, of Med ford, came out with their tent and photo outfit and pitobed the tent m lieo. w. J-iaiey a 101, remaining until Tuesday. A. H Peachey left last week for ' the Mi. Pitt preoinct, where ne goes to teach an unfinished term ,of school. His wife and two child ren went to Oklahoma to visit her Aged father, who is in verv poor Wealth. There seems to be considerable " moving among us of strangerB going to the timber belt and re ' Uirnine. iskine questions about the land here, itB productiveness etc. There have been several families during the past few days moved to the timber bell. Rev. Johnson and wife and Br Adkins and daughter were out labt Sunday, the Reverend gei.tleman preacbed lor ub morning and eveu- ing. He had a good and attentive audience both times, be expects Mo preach here again the fourth Sunday in June, aleo the Saturday night before. Marshals of the dav John Daley and E. Nichols. For further particulars Eee bills. The candidates have been un usually numerous the past week io tbiB section, and tbey all seem de termined to make everybody be l;eve that they ar3 bitterly opposed to the oassine of the hog law. Speaking of that law there see ns to be a feeling on that subject tbit is not arroused very often from the fact that the law if passed will cut off a source of revenue in our county that would not only effot the bog misers but every business mun in the countv. Fur, accord ing to the most authentic etutiBlios we can get, the revenue from the production of b g io Jackson county amounts to about $60,000 a year and allowing one half of that for the expense of rearing, feeding, etc., that leavea $30,000 net in come. The most of the hogs are raised in the foot hills so that we can safely ci.unt on about 97 per cent of that amount or $27,000 go ing into the hands of thoso who live in the foot hills and depend largely on the range and mast for their sus inance. Now take away $27,000, the net income, from thnt oUbb of citizens and where will the merchant, bu'cher, hotel-keeper, doctor and others get. their money. Tneir is one more thought on tbis subject and that is the way the subject U worded on the ticket. lor allowing hogs to run at lorge v.u'd convey the idea that they wi re to be allowed to run at large in towns and cities, whereas in all incnrmraed towns and cities the municipal laws would protect tne cuiz-ns.
