POULTRY POINTERS.
Pure water Is more cssontlal than
clean grnss.
Even though turkeys are good for
agers It will not pay to let them go
without proper feeding.
Everything In the rearing of young
poultry depends upon their caro and
management at least until well feath
ered. Fowls Inclined to fatten too easily
aro not good Inyers. Tho llesh they
carry makes them lay. and this never
promotes laying. .
Middlings make a good food for poul
try, but If wet up alone It Is too sticky.
The better plan Is to mix with bran
or corn nnd wet with mllK or scolding
wnter.
Whitewash Is better than paint on
the iwultry houses, for the reason that
It costs less and has a purifying Influ
ence. It may bo applied as often as
once a month to advantage.
The properties of sunllower seed are
peculiar, and n small quantity fed at
the proimr time will essentially aid In
Imparting to the plumage of adult
fowls a gloss that no other grain will
produce.

Here Is an amusing story of Messrs,
Toole and Jil'ough, the English comedi

drama, "Dearer Than Life," In which
they woro very ragged, woebegone cos
tumes, they visited the well known
artists Frudelle and Marahnll lo be
photographed In their rags. While
waiting "between tho plates" Toole,
who was fond of a lark, suggested to
his brother comedian to sally out and
call upon a certain mutual acquaint
ance, who would lie horribly shocked
at receiving visitors In stic-b a garb.
lirough at once assented, and, popping
on their buttered bata, out Into tho
street tho pair slipped and made for
the bouse of their friend. Of course
the neat bouaomuld and the neater
lluttons were horrllled and declined
even without being asked to purchase
matches or the like.
i "1 axes your pardon," said Toole In
an assumed tone. "You're making a
slight mistake. Wo want to see your
master." And be mentioned the gen
tleman's Christian name and that of
his wife.
"We have Important business with

The girl's face woro a dazed aspect,
and she said: "Master never sees the
likes of you nt his bouse. He's most
pertlckler, ain't ho, diaries?" appeal

"Oh, no, we ain't!" responded Toole
