Some will grow in ordinary soil. Others need fertilizers. The nature of some children prevents them from thriving on ordinary food Such chil dren grow right if treated right. All they need is a little fer tilizer a little extra richness. Scott's Emulsion is the right treatment. Fertilizers make things grow. That's just what Scott's Emul sion docs. It makes children grow in flesh, grow in strength, grow rich blOod, grow in mind, grow happy. That's what we make it for. Send for free sample. Sl'OTT & linWNR, Chemists, .ci Trarl St., N. V. There seems to be a false rumor going through the country that our town is having an epidemic of diph theria, which is not true in the least part. .There has only been one case here that any physician could call diphtheria, and that was the caso of the late Ira Porry, and he was a child that had always been subject to membranous croup and when he took the two diseases to gether it was too much for his con stitution. Your correspondent has inquired particularly and can not find even one case of sore throat in town. So bo8 of Time. That the City of Medford has rn ight to impose a liceney of if 1 00 per annum on the Sunset Telephone it Telegraph Company was the ru ling of Judge Bellinger in the United Slates Court this morning, and the injunction restraining the 1 i'y from removing the poles and wires is still in force. Some time ago the City Council passed an ordinance fixing the an nual license to be paid by nil tele phone companies at $100 a year, and al-o fixing the rate for tele phones at $1.".0 a month. The Sunset Telephone & Telegraph Co., deeming this excessive, refused to pay it, and when the officers com menced to make preparation lor removing the poles and wires fron the city a suit to enjoin them from doing po was brought in the United States Court. . The cae was ar gued some days' ago, and a decision rendered this morning. Judge Bellinger s'ated that this would be without the authority of the city and the ordinance was therefore void. The court explained that a city can fix a license only at figures which will cover the ex pense of issuing a license and other possible expenses, and that such a license would be a tax that could not be 1- vied. "In short," he said, "a city cannot add to the condi tions upon which the franohise 'was originally granted, although h K-! cense within reason is b ga1." j Tho court stated thre was no! need to take up the other phase of! question es to the monthly rate of $1.50, the d-f-ndant having ad mitted that sueh a prohibition or restriction would be void. The de murrer lo the bill of the complaint was accordingly overruled. The attorneys for the defence took ten days in which to answer, but the restraining order is in force and will continue so unless the de fendants ' can show better cause why they should not be allowed to impose the license of $100 per an num.
