They reported that snow was two Inches deep on the mountains as they came over and there was more of It falling. Mrs Ankeny took the evening train for Eugene. Mrs. E. P. Orser and children, Mrs. M. A. Burney, Mrs. Orser's mother, and Benj. Edwards left Tuesday even ing for Burke, Idaho, where they will reside. Mr. Orser has been employed in a mine at Burke for several months and has decided to remain there. Mrs. T. L. Crandall, wife of Rev, Crandall, returned Monday evening from Ogdcn, Utah, whither she went ten weeks ago to nurse a son who was ill wlth'typhoid fever. The young man, after an eight weeks' stay In a hospital, is now well again and has resumed teactrug. J. V. Heffner and family left Monday for Corning, Calif., where tbey will reside. Mr. Heffner has secured steady employment at carpentering and at good wages. Ahrendsen returned this week to Crows Landing, Calif., after a three weeks' business visit to Medford and vicinity. He came here intent upon purchasing some Medford real estate, but owing to the excitement now on in real estate and its great demand he de cided to hold off for a few months. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Spencer and son, George, of Nortbbnrough, Iowa, arrived in Medford last week and will visit for j a moath with N. H. Spencer and fam ily, out on Griffin creek. These gen tlemen are brothers, but tbey have not seen each other since they were small boys. Now both are old nun with fam ilies and Mr. N. H. Spencer is a grand parent. W. D. Love left Monday for his for mer home at Harwood, Missouri. The gentleman has been here since last spring upon a visit to . his son-in-law, Attorney C. P. Snell. He expects to return again to this land of plenty next spring, when it is quite probable be will anchor a permanent base here. The Mail will keep him informed on Medford's doings during his absence. A. V. Barnum came over from' Ft. Klamath latt week and on Saturday left Medford for Dawson City, Yukon Territory. His friend, S. S. HalBted, who went into that country a few months ago, has discovered that good monoy can be made in conducting a bakery and restaurant there and has secured a suitable building and bas sent for Mr. Barnum, ,who is a gentle man of experience In that line, to come and run it for him. Mr. Hal n ted is employed in a mine near Dawson and is getting 15 a day over and above ex penses. The Mail will supply tbem with Jackson County news. H. J. Boyd and family, of Lebanon, Oregon, arrived in Medford last week, and after making several unsuccessful attempts to rent a dwelling house be decided his best and only way to bouse his family was to make a purchase and proceeded to possess himself of the J. W. Lusher residence, on North C street, paying $700 therefor. The deal was trade through the F. M. Stewart real estate agency. Mr. Boyd is a photographer and has purchased an Interest in the H. C. Mackey gallery, In the Hamlin block. He is said to be a first-class artist and has been known to Mr. Mackey for the past twelve years.
