One of the hardest questions a naval
woman must decide is where exactly
her duty lies, between her husband
and her children, writes Anna A.
Rogers out of her owu experience in
Woman's Home Companion. Poverty
generally decides it in fnvor of the
latter, leaving her no choice but to
itay with her family during the three
years of bis cruise. At such times the
wife remains in entire eclipse save
for the letters, many and long, that
strive to bridge the separation, and
it is in these letters and the coin-
- panionship of her children that she
finds - her chief consolation. But
should there be. that desirable thing,
source of private income, the wife
- la apt to boid different views, and she
' goes to the station where her hus-
band's 'ship - comes to a given port
every six months for the nece&sary
preservative docking. Wifehood is
ascendant, and the children are those
'' of hotels, steamers and railways; lit
tle poseurs; nervous, overwrought,
' enemic, prematurely knowing as . to
' the world and 'its ways, strangely
ignorant as to what is called educa
tion. Then- there is the third type,
the childless i wife,, who scampers
- about merrily from port to port, and
who has a consequent and sufficient
accumulation of "experience" to make
envy epidemic among the departed
saints. This very homelessness leads
: to a specialized faculty among women ''
of the navy for making a home any-1
where and at an hour's notice. , Ai

spot on the mountains, near Asbestos.
Though her pupils are few she is busy
with them.
Friday of this week the Dewey school
will close with a literary program and
a picnic in which parents and friends
will unite with the children.
Lora Oolton, in charge of Foots creek
school, has a full attendance and lively
interest among her pupils. She will
soon have a literary society in working

We had the pleasure of visiting the
school In No 27 last week, where Miss
Bern ice Cameron baa one of the most
Interesting groups of pupils in the

. During the past week we hare en
joyed meeting and talking to the
patrons along educational lines, In dis
tricts 3, 21, 40 and 60. In each case the
teachers bad prepared good program
by the pupils. Parents are manifesting
great interest in all that pertains to
the building up of our schools.
Many schools are planning to have
some kind of special feature during or
at the close of the spring term. Three
schools united in a picnic lost week at
Kingsbury springs, bringing friends
and acquaintances together for a pleas
ant holiday. Parents can well afford
to drop their work and help the scholars
enjoy an outing. School life will be
brighter for it. , ' ;

recently in the following, districts: 14,
,17, 18, 48 and 52. In each case there
was a good attendance of . parents' and;
patrons J- Pupils enlivened the program
with; appropriate: selections, and. the
superintendent gave a talk along the
