Thoy could J In Prof. Shaw's report on Jack son County's sugar beet analyses ne says the sixty analyses gave an average of 16.6 per cent sugar and eighty-one per cent purity. The average yield he gives at 16.1 tons per acre, The weight he put in at 16.4 ounces. It will be rememberod by those who grew beets last vear that our greatest effort was to se cure a small beet to send in for analyses. It now appears that we were overly anxious upon this point as tne average weight of our beets was not up to tbe required standard of from y2 to 3 pounds. The one and only disadvantage which Mr. Stewart, secretary of the Sooto- American Sugar Syndicate, who visited our locality last week, could see that we were labonntr under in our attempt to interest oapital in a line of a sugar beet faotorv was the fact that we could 'not produoe a beet large enough for faotory use. He had taken Prof. Shaw's average weight as the basis'for his conclu sions These, however, were soon dispelled when we introduced him to several of our growers who were willing to make . affidavit that last year they grew sugar beets that neighed twenty pounds eaoh. This weight is extraordinary but that we can raise beets of required fao tory size there is no question.
