There were 75 dele gates to the county convention in the city and every delegate had with him from one to five friends, making: in all a crowd equal to that which assembles at a Fourth of July celebration or a "hosa" race. The convention was called to order at eleven o'clock Saturday forenoon by vV. I. Vawtor, chairman of the county central committee, and the work of temporary organization was com menced. W. I. Vawter was chosen temporary chairman and Gus Newbury temporary secretary. There were no contesting- delegates but thero were several delegates pres ent in addition to those at first allotted to the several precincts, and these, by motion of II. E. Ankeny were given seats in the convention. A committee of five, composed of C. B. Watson, Dr. Robinson. l)r. B. F. Adkins, A. A. Whiteman and Alex Orme, was ap pointed on order of business. The com mittee of five on credentials E. V. Carter, Geo. Brown, Robt. Bond, Dr. E. 1. Geary and Peter Applegate. Committee of three on resolutions were II. E. Ankeny, J. II. II u Her and J. M. Whipple. Upon motion the convention ad journed to meet at 1:30 p. ni. At 1MU Chairman awter re-con vened the convention and the report of the committee on order of busi ness was read and adopted. In this re port it was recommended that lion. II. E. Ankeny act as permanent chair man. The acceptance of the report placed Mr. Ankeny in the chair. i no next order oi ousiness was tne election of two secretaries and Gus Newbury and H. C. Myer were the chosen two. Report adopted. Scott Griffin and G. M. Love were chosen tellers. The first order for nomination was that of seven delegates to the state and district conventions. Scott Griffin presented the name of L. F. Willits; J. W. Koblnson thought J. C. Whipp ought to be one and so nominated; Geo. Brown thought the same as to lvobt. Bond: A. A. Whiteman named Poter Applegato; J. It. Norris was nomi nated hy J. F. Dodge: H. D. Kubll came tc the fore with the name of Hon H. K. Ankeny, I. A. Webb figured that Dr. Robinson wanted company and came up smiling with the name of Dr. E. P. Geary: G. T. Jones named G. F. Merriman and Robt Taylor put up C. fc.. Stewart. It was decided that the seven dele gates receiving the highest umber of votes be declared elected. The vote was as follows: Love 46: Willits 59; Bod 42: Whipp 40; Applegate 45; Nor ris 51; Ankeny 69; Geary 68; Stewart 43; Merriman 34. Messrs. Ankeny. ueary, Norris, Willits, Applegate, Love and Stewart were declared elected. Legislative candidates came next. C. B. Watson nominated N. Langell, Goo. Brown uamed H. Von dor Hellen, of Eagle Point, E. V. Carter brought out W. B. Colton, of Ashland, G. M. Love wanted H. D. Kubli in the raco again and so nominated, W. V. Jonos named J. M. Whipple, of Woodviile. Nominations closed. The ballot stood: Kubli 42; Von der Hellen 87; Langell 54; Whipple 24: Colton 63. Colton, Kubli and Langoll were declared the nominees. Hon. J. W. Morrittt, of Central Point, was nominated by acclamation for county judge. A. F. Hunt, of Ashland, was nomi nated for sheriff by C. B. Watson, and G. W. Stephenson, also of Ashland, was named by S. M. Itobinson, of Tal ent. The ballot cave Hunt 02 and Stephenson 25. Hunt declared the nominee. Tho hottest contest of the dav was for county clerk. Dr. E. P. Geary nominated M. L. Alford. of Medford, and E. C. Pomeroy, of Beagle, nomi nated Max Muller. The vote gave Al ford 40 and Muller 3-5. It was a neck and neck race until each had scored 33 votes. Here Alford forged ahead and took seven of tho remaining votes while Muller only took two of them. Alford declared the choice. For recorder M. Hubbard nominated Prof. L. L. Freeman, of Gold Hill, and D. T. Lawton named Ora Kahler. of Phoenix. The vote gave Freeman 28; Kahler 47. Kahler nominated. Nine of the Medford delegates had pledged their suDort to Freeman and thev stayed bv him but they were too few. Tbeo. Cameron, of Jacksonville', was nominated for treasurer by acclama tion. J. G. Martin, of Benzie, Garl T. Jones, of Medford, and G. S. Butler, of Ashland, were named for county commissioner. Mr. Martin received 3" votes, Jones 23 and Butler 13; Mar tin declared the nominee. A. J. Florey, of Eacle Point and F. M. Stewart of Eden Precinct, were named for Assessor. Collins, who wa so dan gerously ill that her life was despaired of for a time, is now pro nounced out of danger. Miss E. Downing, of Ashland, passed through the valley Saturday on her way to Asbestos, at which place she commenced school the following Monday.
